re: Facebook Justice for a non collar dog shot

I've never even thought of shooting a dog, but been there when it happened once. And after that experience, I'm definitely never doing it. But I will admit it was reasonably justified. This was a pack of collar-less dogs chasing does back and forth across a creek bed we were hunting. So it wasn't a "those dogs are probably chasing deer"...it was a certainty. And we were miles from the nearest house, so it shouldn't have just been a yard dog that caught a deer scent. The other guy I was with decided to shoot one when it broke off from the pack and started heading down the creek towards us. I'd never watched a dog die like that and would never like to see it again. I'd rather just have a ruined hunt and go on with my day.

Geez, those people are nuts.

Don't know why you even started this thread. They always go to shite by the first page...

Personally I wouldn't shoot a dog on my place until it was last resort, which meant previous encounters with the dog.
However, I'm about sick and tired of these animal loving psychos, and especially the women. I hate to make a political/moral comment, but half of them probably had abortions. But yet crucify he who killed a pest on his own property (I'm not referring to this dog in particular, as I don't know the facts).
I had a friend that shot a dog on his place, and by the time it was over he almost lost his job, was arrested, had court cases, land was resurveyed, etc. He had continually dealt with the neighbor's dogs for months. And it was 4 of them that run over his place all day and night, whether it be while in he was in his stand or at the camp. His problem was that when he shot it, it ran off and died at the neighbor's house.

My guess is, cow eats better than dog, so there's that. Pew....

Same rule applies up here, and has been in effect for years. State law here backs it up, too. I suspect that most posters here and most people everywhere have never witnessed a pack of dogs chasing or cornering livestock. At that point, those dogs are no longer your family pets. They have reverted to their long buried pack instincts and it isn't pretty.

These threads never cease to amaze me

They are nuts.
Look, I love dogs. I am a huge dog enthusiast. I know all the breeds, temperaments, you name it. I can train them really well, and I can handle them. I'm just good with dogs.
That said, they are tools to me. Each dog has a purpose first. It doesn't mean I don't care for the dog, but I don't believe a dog has a soul or anything.
A dog has never ruined my hunt. Whenever I see a stray dog in the woods, they usually come up and sniff and wag their tail. I just ignore the animal. It will then usually walk off but stick around, but I never found a reason to shoot one. Now, if it got aggressive, damn right I'm going to shoot the animal.
People on their who say shite like, "I hope you die a painful death!" or "This makes me want to hold my babies tonight!" are extremists to me.
To the guy on Facebook who shot the dog, I don't want you to die, but I do want you to know what it means to be a steward of the woods, of our ecosystem. Each animal plays a part, including you. Be responsible and do the right thing, whatever the circumstances allow.

So I'm guessing this isn't the time, place, or thread to admit to killing repeat offender dogs and deer dogs that jump property lines huh. If you wanna keep them alive act accordingly.

Yeah, they can get out of line. I've heard of dogs wrecking shop on people's property. I don't have issues with that.
In fact, here in Jackson, a pack of stray dogs got into the zoo and killed some of the exotic birds and other animals. Crazy stuff.

what is the point of not collaring your precious pooch? If it means that much to you then take precautions. Don't let the shithead run wild and free. That is YOUR responsibility
I spend thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours a year to get that one chance at the buck(s) I have been working for. Dues, licenses, trimming, planting, scouting. I'll be damned if an uncollared dog comes running through my place pushing deer out of their areas and potentially onto other properties.
Idk how long this dog has been out fending for itself? We have had packs of wild dogs running around before that eventually met their fate.
This would also depend on where I am hunting. If I am near residential areas then I would have more patience but there isn't a town around us

My buddy had a pack chase him around Big Branch a while back, and he shot one. The others chased him up a tree and he dropped his gun on the way up. Had to call the backup team, and when we got there, they ran off.
I'd be pissed if one chased my deer away, but wouldn't ever shoot a dog because of that

Also, if you have a dog that runs away, it only shows a lack of training on your part.
My dog is 8 years old and not neutered. He has NEVER run away.

My neighbors are the same way. They have 4 dogs (no children).

It's just my opinion. Shoot my dog and see what happens.
