Without a doubt in my mind, the biggest one is my family packing us up and getting the hell out of Ferriday, LA. This topic was a speech in college and I said the same thing....probably saved myself from getting into some small town stupidness
Second one is realizing some people aren't so bad as they appear and might be marriage material.

Used to live in Ferriday. Feel your pain.

Meeting my wife. I was a shithead. She was the good girl, honor student, cheerleader, and 5'8" blonde of my dreams. Once we started dating, I realized that she was what I wanted in life. I quit partying as much, started studying, and better myself in anyway possible to impress and keep her. Might have worked out like that anyway, but it didn't seem like it would. Up to that point I didn't give much of a shite about anything. To steal a line from Jack Nicholson,"She made me want to be a better man."
And she still does. She's as good of a person as I've ever met. Without her, I don't think I could or would keep that devil on my shoulder outta my head.

Getting sober @ 34 allowed me to be a dad to my 13 year old daughter that I raised as a single parent. Also, it allowed me to be "present" when my dad passed away - had to take him off life support at 62 due to cerebral aneurysm. Lastly, to meet the love of my life (3rd wife) in AA and start a new family (boys are 7 & 8 now). Life is good, today.

Congrats on your sobriety!

The day my 10 year old and only son was diagnosed with a brain tumor. I did not know spirituality and prayer until then. Every day with him since has been a gift.

I couldn't imagine dealing with that.

This is a very uplifting thread and makes everyone here thankful for what they have and where they've been.
Agree. Nice anchor dickheads. If I wanted the cocksuckers of the OT to chime in, I would've asked their thoughts.

Boss, I simply stepped up. I also let people help and support. Thank God for our family and friends.

Mine was my old man being shot in an attempted robbery about 15 years ago. He owned a car lot and on a Sunday night was going move a car from outside to inside the gate. He went in the office to put the keys up and didn't lock the door. Well some thug attempted to bust up in there. My dad fought him off and the perp shot him in the arm striking a his nerve with what we think was a 25 acp. It showed me at a young age that criminals and thugs don't mess around and you have to always be prepared.
To this day my old man still loses feeling in his hand from the nerve being severed. The piece of shite was never caught.

Exactly. If I want to go have a couple beers and shoot the shite with like minded people, I don't go to Club Splash, I go to a place like Sal's or the Cottage.
Same concept applies to posting threads like this here. It was a good Sunday morning reflection thread.
Oh well, better luck next time.

The Admins on this board can often exceed the stupidity level exhibited by many of the posters...and that's saying a lot.
Losing my Dad was/remains, tough. But I've been lucky as hell, largely due to his efforts and influence...though I'm still crazy as a March hare.

Good to know the admin aren't biased. They kill good threads on all boards.
