how do you do this? I have never done this before. just nets and string from a warf and traps.

Two poles
Connected with string
However many drop lines you want with turkey necks
Lift line

What is the minimum size for a blue crab worth keeping? 5" point to point? Also, how many would be considered enough per person for a boil?

Big trout like big meals ie croakers. Shrimp work fine on smaller trout.

There is none. Looked it up the other day to confirm when a friend asked me the same question. I don't keep the smaller ones (gumbo crabs) anyway. But just FYI

Hmmm. Not sure but a W to WSW wind is predicted which ain't good!

the crabs were small last Saturday, but they were full of eggs!

At Elmer’s IslandCat? My son and I were there Saturday morning and caught 85 and all were medium to large. Also only had to throw back 3 with eggs.

my bad. I was on the island. caught a couple select ones, then a few alright ones. Besides that the rest is what I would call a factory crab. We had about 6-7 dozen. Didn't count them. Very few male crabs. And like I said, the females were full of eggs.

Neighbor told me that 95% of the crabs you catch in the surf out there will be female. No idea why.

Weird. In PAC it's the exact opposite.
Posted on 8/9/18 at 3:25 pm to DownSouthDave
DownsouthDave. We caught 85 and 1 was a male!
Posted on 8/9/18 at 3:46 pm to Islandcat
Hope you threw back the ones with eggs. It’s illegal to keep the “berries”.
Posted on 8/9/18 at 5:04 pm to DownSouthDave
Females migrate to the coast to release their eggs. Something about high salinity. I guess that's why they outnumber the males like they do.
Posted on 8/9/18 at 5:06 pm to LSUtigerMD
no I kept the ones with the eggs in them. I threw the ones with the "pom poms". Those are the illegal ones. I only caught about 5-6 of those.
