Anyone hit Elmer's lately? I know a lot like tide, wind speed and directions, etc determines if it will be good there but trying to take my son this week. Just seeing if any recent reports out there. Thanks!

I hit the jetties on the island this past week. The bite was on in the morning but it was mostly small fish. The water was so clear that also brought in a lot of fish you dont normally catch in the surf.

Fished interior islands this past weekend 31 Friday, 35 Saturday. Mostly 13-15" fish. ALL on plastics (Vudu, Matrix Shad) We caught 100+ trout on Friday to keep 31 but on Saturday we slept in until 9:30am but the fish we caught were less but bigger.

My buddies fished Elmers in a boat and brought home 10 Friday, 12 Saturday, all plastics also)

I hate live shrimp but get you some and you'll catch something.

Get live Shrimp to increase your chances. A couple of weeks ago we slaughtered the specks a few hundred yards down Elmer’s toward fourchon

The recommendations about shrimp are spot on. There have been times when plastics work great, but others, shrimp are the only thing they'll touch.

Was planning on stopping at the bait shop in Leeville or the one right before Elmer's on left to get live shrimp if they have some. If not, I'll run into Bridgeside. Was going to try to get there around 5:00-5:30. What about live croakers? Seems those have done well for me in the past.

The one right before Elmer's is coastal bait. I'd get there at or before 5 if you want shrimp; they're just not catching many right now. I've never been a fan of croakers myself, but plenty of people use them successfully

Croakers are prob the best bait. The recent theory discussed on this board in the last few years is that specs switched from shrimp to croakers in the late summer

I've heard the opposite lately, not much of a croaker bite but they were hitting shrimp.

Same here. Have heard that specks feed on croakers late spring early summer because they try to eat the speck eggs when they’re spawning. The croaker bite slows late post spawn.

I haven't caught many trout this summer on croakers
Idk why, same spots as last summer.
They've been hitting shrimp much better all year imo

Also, if I’m going to throw out for a Bull Red, I’m guessing cut mullet is best or maybe cracked crab. Where’s the best spot on way to cast net for some
Mullet?

You can catch big arse mullet(perfect for cutting up) in the ponds on the right side of the road coming in or in the ditches

We caught 58 out of Dulac last weekend with the majority coming on live shrimp, a cpl of the spots the Fish refused to bite on the croakers, and the ones that did it was a funny bite. We came back and fished a little more east and the fish were all over the croakers.

Man, the surf was pretty rough so it was difficult to fish. Tried a little but nothing was happening. Saw a bunch of people around me catching crabs so luckily I had brought my crabbing gear as a backup. Had my son and wanted him to have a good time so we set up a pretty simple and short trot line. Ended up catching 7 dozen crabs by noon and left them biting. Turned out to be a pretty productive day after all.
