Wild elk in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, Missouri, and Arkansas. Maybe Michigan. Hunting allowed for most of those.
You could hunt an alligator, bear, and elk in Arkansas in the same fall. Amazing.

Can you imagine the damage an elk could do to a feeder? Imagine they could do a number on a small food plot or acorn crop.

Last time they were here we didn’t have the hog issue. A population of elk here with hogs would be bad for white tails

ETA: is rather eat an elk or hog but my house ain’t big enough to mount multiple bulls

I don't know if we have enough contiguous habitat to support an elk herd anymore in Louisiana

I think this is the biggest issue. We don't have the greatest habitat already. Add another large ungulate to the mix, and it definitely doesn't get better. We wouldn't have a huntable population if they could restore them.

But, it is fun to dream about elk and bison returning to Louisiana. Bison have always been the one for me. Would be cool to see them roaming around the coastal prairies and marshes again.

Not sure, but I don't think the historic distribution of bison extended into the south Louisiana coastal area. I think it cut off further north in Louisiana.

This post has me searching for cabins to rent this fall. Never even heard of this place honestly. Might get the wife off of her gatlinburg kick she's been on. I've been there at least 5 times, time for a change of mountains

How's the fishing around there? Anything I could hit without a boat?

We had a blast there. I went everyday looking at the elk and finally saw 2 bulls the last day. About 15 total every day right off the highway next to a trail.

That place is beautiful. We went ziplining, did the Mystic Cave tour, hiking, went to the Lion, Tiger and bar sanctuary in Eureka Springs. We stayed in Ponca. I cant wait to go back when the kids are a a litle older. I took them swimming in the Steel Creek because it was the deepest place to swim at 3-4 ft. Everyone should go just to see the scenery. Its amazing.

I’ve seen 600 yards of 4 strand barbed wire fence destroyed by a a pair of bulls. Looked like a dozer just hooked up and ran off with it.
