I tried searching because I know this has been asked before but could only search the last 15 days.

I have a new piece of property that is hilly but not very muddy. I am interested in electric transportation but am concerned it's not worth it in the long run. For those who have tried it are you happy with the performance? Any particular type to look at? Any type to avoid?

I have an electric cart and would def go gas for any type of off road use. We use ours mostly on grand isle and the sand kicks it’s arse. I’d imagine the hills and possible mud wouldn’t go well.

ETA: if you’re worried about noise level, the newer Yamaha gas carts are essentially noiseless. Maybe a touch louder than battery.

What type of terrain are you dealing with? Electric will do fine for grass and even a little mud. Its the deep stuff that you'll have problems with. I would suggest 48v and lithium if you can, but my 36v lead acid will go all around my neighborhood pond without an issue.

Go electric. Like stated above, 48v machines are great.

Used a badboy and some regular old ezgo carts for years on a piece of property with lots of hills/terrain, but very little mud. They worked great, as far as performance on the terrain. Mud would be a big issue, but hills never were for us.

I agree with a lithium battery pack if you're going to do a golf cart.

I’m very interested in the ranger kinetic but looks like they are easily 18 months out to get one.

Terrain is a fairly good road system just lots of hills some pretty steep. I have a Polaris crew gas I can use if going off road but kicking around the idea of an electric vehicle to keep things less disturbed.

Sounds like most of you have done very well with electric vehicles that isn’t what I expected you to say.

So y’all just got a regular golf cart updated wheels and batteries and it handles the terrain?

For the most part, yes. You can go in the direction of an older golf cart and upgrade everything if you want. New motor, Lithium batteries, new controller etc. Guy in my neighborhood does 45 MPH. I have a torque motor to pull my boat around my yard. I run about 16 MPH, but can crawl out of a 3 foot ditch without a problem.

Research the cost to replace batteries on a golf cart with the knowledge that the push to electric vehicles will not be helping that market.

Batteries will need to be replaced every 3-7 years

Unbolt the top and take the top off because the top rattles and makes so much dam noise. When its windy, I can't tell you how many deer I have snuck up on in our golf cart. The top to me is just to dam loud!

That is all I hunt on, fill feeders, and check cameras. It takes pretty good hills with ease. Get good tires and a lift. I take it on my Illinois hunts also and the only problem I’ve had is in snow. It is absolutely horrible on any kind of hill in snow. Mine is also a 2 wheel drive.

Incorrect. Lead Acid need to be replaced every 3-7. And its $500 for Sams Club Duracel batteries.

Lithium is supposed to be a minimum of 10 years, and most places even warranty out to 10.

Its 2-3k for the entire Lithium kit. That includes controller, batteries, and charger. If you were to upgrade a 36v cart to 48v, you would still need to purchase a controller, batteries, and a charger.

You might want to look into something like this. Built for off road terrain.
