Anyone done it regularly? I’m considering switching to a 20 gauge next year and have thought hunting with an O/U would be interesting.

I don’t typically shoot more than twice anyway, and when I do fire a third time it isn’t a productive shot haha

I did for a while, but shooting cripples is a lot easier when you have a 3rd shot already in the chamber

Only thing I ever saw good about it was being able to have two chokes ready. Never done it but hunted with people who do. As noted above, it seems like steel shot is getting weaker and weaker and putting down cripples sounds like a pain.

I have / do and you don't realize how valuable that third shot is.

You will when a pair fly's in and you shoot the first one and whiff the second and just stand there watching it fly away.

There are a few creeks we hunt where it's a woodduck shoot and they scream down the channel. I have a 16 ga Citori with short barrels that is perfect for this set up. It's the only one I use in that situation.

However, I never take it to the blind when hunting flooded fields.

I see you are going w 20ga so recoil shouldn't be an issue. W a 20ga you may want to use a non toxic shot like bismuth unless your birds decoy well and steel would work.
An OU for 12 ga and using 3" shells may kick more than u like. Thats the positive of a semi, especially gas is recoil reduction along w the 3rd shell.
I have a citori that i could duck hunt with ... in 30+ yrs of owning the gun i have duck hunted w it maybe 5x ....

I shoot one on a few occasions every year for waterfowl.

Higher recoil, reloading hassle, and 2 shots keep me from using it more than a handful.

If you're in a tight quartered blind its a pain to have to get the gun in the blind and break it open to reload, or you hold it out the blind and deal with all the brush around you.

Do it.

My uncle did it forever. Never seemed to be any kind of hindrance to him. Hunt with what you shoot the best. If that's a crack barrel 20 gauge, use that. Been many a duck killed with single shots and double barrels over the past century.

The bad thing about it is being ok with duck hunting abuse of your double barrel, which tend to be very nice shotguns. I personally don't mind battle marks on fine shotguns, but some people do.

I have with a 12ga. Mentally, I was more aware of the two shells and made better shots. Also mentally, 3" mags gave me a headache after a few flocks.

Recoil is a real issue w a 12ga OU, i love upland hunting w an OU and 2 3/4" shells. Using 12 ga steel 3" loads 1500fps w an OU is no fun.

All I ever hunted ducks with was an o/u. Only recently got a semiauto and purely because I wanted to add something different for a change of pace. O/U for ducks is great. Especially a 20. Do it.

My dad used a 20 gauge side by side to duck hunt with, and his friend used a 28 gauge over/under. Usually always came home with quick limits. 3rd shell not an issue.

Personally I find myself shooting my 20 O/U during teal season and sometimes by 12 o/u on a goose hunt.

Anyone hunting ducks with an over under is either a real good shot or a good liar

Hmm. Green jeans???? OK. Just noticed you're in Canada. Maybe legal there? If so, I'm on my way.

In SW rice fields it is great to have a two trigger side by side or O/U if yo I can find them. So many times a goose comes in when you have duck load in and vice versa. Not sure how others deal with that w/o shooting a compromise load or ejecting first shell but I think except for the mud and water on a nice O/U or side by side and the weight, I’ve considered it many times.
