Had our limit before 8. I’ve limited out 4/5 days. Only day I haven’t is the only day I hunted private property, there’s a ton of birds in TX panhandle, ducks included.

We did it right this year. Birds flew all morning. Breakfast and Gameday now.

Nice, I’m back at house and birds are cleaned. Can’t decide on bloody Mary’s or just going straight to coors light

I usually hunt afternoons, but it’s too damn hot right now. I’m good with getting up early.

Those doves look fattened up on cracked corn.

What are most doing for field preps. This is the first year we’ve owned a field that is able to be planted. We were late to being able to do anything with it this year but did get a small section of brown top down that matured about right on time.
We had a few birds to shoot at but nothing like the war going on to our south lol.
My dad’s convinced everyone is an outlaw and just throws seed and corn for weeks prior to opening. But personally I have no interest in getting it done that way. Partially because I’m not willing to take the chance with green jeans and partially because baiting in that way doesn’t bring me a lot of joy.
So who has some tips for a dude and his family who spent all weekend talking about what we want to do next year with the field.
The plantable section of the field is about five acres. Imagine it’s a triangle with a road on the hypotenuse and pine trees on the other two sides.
Or just tell me everyone is an outlaw and I’ll move on lol

Plant sunflowers. Spend the money on a good pre-emerge like BroadAxe. Fertilize it. Spray with Select if it gets grassy. Or if your budget affords, you can plant Clearfield. You can't just make any field a good dove field. Like ducks, they have to want to come to that spot anyway. Millet and other grains are fine but in my experience sunflowers are the best bang for your buck.
