Plant sunflowers in early May. Then bushhog some a few weeks before the season. As long as it is planted and not thrown everywhere, bush hogging trails are completely normal and acceptable practice in Georgia. Not sure about Louisiana. The best dove fields i ever hunted in Louisiana was in my dad's sugar cane fields after harvesting next to the swamp.

Honestly with duck hunting going down in my normal hunting in Oklahoma, dove hunting has become my favorite bird season...

And protect them from deer! Electric fencing works best if you can swing it.

If you plant sunflowers half your battle will be keeping deer off of them. There are some new exotic deer repellents that I’ve tried on my stand of rice that work.

Duck hunting in general was abysmal this past season. I assume that’s what he meant. If it wasn’t for the last 2 weeks of the season where we got freezing temps that pushed birds to the river. I don’t think my group I hunt with would have killed 100 birds this past year

Used to kill limits of green every hunt odd duck pintail or wigeon… add a few cacklers and it was a rodeo. Now if I shoot 1 -2 greenheads it’s a banger. No where near the ducks or available hunting land in Ft. Cobb like we used to have.

Now doves in Middle Georgia have been a blast. Shooting 15 every time you go is a blast.

What are yalls deer fencing solutions? Is it dependent on deer population? I wouldn’t say the surrounding deer population is anything stellar.

In Georgia its deer. We use a wire fence around the sunflowers.
