Not dog related but when I was growing up, my moms siamese cat got into some chocolate at Christmas. This damn cat starts shitting all over and running thru the house. It ran straight into my bedroom and climbed the heavy wool curtains shitting the whole time. My bedroom smelled like cat shite for weeks

this shite is funny as frick.

I had a Dane eat an entire cake to where the dish looked like it came out of the dishwasher

My old chocolate lab, when he was 6 months old, ate two whole pumpkin pies from the counter and licked them like they had never been used. It was one of those situations were you couldn't even get mad even though it was Thanksgiving. Had to be impressed.

I told the story the other day about my rescue lab stealing my one bite taken out of sandwich off the recliner when I went to answer the phone. Phone stopped ringing before I got to it, turned around and no sandwich. She was so smooth about it, I didn’t even see her move from her spot. She had me questioning whether I even made the damn thing. I couldn't even get mad at her!

Mom is 80, and her household will be much easier to manage with just a small lap dog. So it all kind of worked out....

My mom got a cocker spaniel as a pup. This was way before it "common knowledge" that chocolate is bad for dogs.

That dog ate, at least, one Hershey Kiss, everyday. Somedays, it may be 3-4. I shared chocolate chip cookies with it when I having some, too.

That dog lived to be 18 years old.

Anyhow, maybe there is something to this dog chocolate thing?

Of course there is. It has to be a lot and it has to be actual chocolate, though. They can ingest a decent amount and be fine just like you can ingest a certain amount of arsenic and be fine. That doesn't mean arsenic being poison is an old wive's tale, and in large amounts cocoa will absolutely kill them.

Ron White joke:

I know two things about dogs; they don't live long, so love them a lot while you have them.

They also looooove chocolate.

I had a Black Lab/Norwegian Ridgeback mix and he ate an entire chocolate Bundt cake with chocolate icing. He had to go out several times that night to poop but he had no other issues.

He was basically a stomach with teeth and legs……

My chessie has been known to eat just about anything including socks, washcloths and whole popsicle sticks. The only thing that ever gave her any issues was when she got into a bag of dark chocolate chips. She was noticeably agitated and my wife who was pregnant at the time insisted I bring her to the vet. The vet tech said she had never seen a dog eat the charcoal/cat food mix as fast as she did before they pumped her stomach.

I don’t think a little milk chocolate is an issue but a lot of dark chocolate can cause issues.
