What brand dog food do you feed your dog?
How often, and how much? I give my lab 2 cups in the morning and 3 cups at night of purina one and he's putting on weight.

2 cups in the afternoon only

We used to use puring but Dog Chow has been working just fine. Usually go back to purina during hunting season

And if he has a hard working hunt we'll usually give him a half cup to a cup snack

Just got a lab pup...he is 22 weeks old...one cup in morning one at night...of Eukanuba. The kennel I got him from had some info on how it is healthy to have a slim dog and asked the vet and they agreed. Now I am training with positive reinforcement so he gets lots of treats during the day.

Read the label, if corn or a corn product is one of the first few ingredients, I avoid them, increases stool volume and some Vets have told me it is most likely ingredient to lead to allergies, even Iams now has corn as one of the top 3 ingredients on its puppy formula.

I have 3 shorthairs and feed Pro Plan. Chicken during the non hunting months and high protien during hunting season. They get around 2 cup in the am and 2 cups in the pm.

That is what I thought you would say. I have been seeing some on our property down in the willow flats. Will they hold for a dog like quail? I have seen enough to spark an interest. On a 1 hour walk through the woods how many would you expect to see? This is me just walking without a dog. I have seen around a dozen just by chance and was wondering if there were many more.

Higher quality food = less stool volume, and less you have to feed to maintain a healthy weight. You can feed 2 cups/day of PPlan performance or Eukanuba, and hose less mess, or 5 cups of cheap stuff and buy bags more often, your choice. I went to Purina one from Purina PPlan and had to add a cup of food to keep dogs weight the same.
"hendrixfan", you are feeding way to much. I feed a 90lb hunting/trial lab 3.5 cups of Purina one in the evening. You can barely see one maybe two ribs and he has a nice slim waist. 98% of dog owners i run into feed WAY too much.

Yea kinda like a quail. Finding birds without dogs is a good sign. Sounds like you have a few birds. Anything over 10 an hour is good with a dog. If you would like to meet up and hunt, let me know. The season runs through January.

Purina Pro Plan large breed formula. I've raised 2 labs on it. Both have been healthy dogs, nice coats and no joint/arthritis problems.

Taste of the wild

It has No grain- which is simply a filler in dog food

Grain is one of the leading causes of allergies in dogs

Was on Science Diet and he lost interest in eating. Trainer was feeding the ProPlan so I made the switch and he LOVES it.

Not sure how much I feed him. I fill the bowl almost all of the way to the top and he's still thin. I do usually give about 3/4 - 1 cup after a good hunt, but all other times he eats at night
