I guess the whole problem was that I couldn’t get it on the 4 trax

The way I load them is to drag them next to the ATV. Then stand on ATV looking backwards and drag the deer from the footwells up so head is on seat or touching the rear rack. I then use a small piece of rope to tie the head to the rack. Then walk around behind ATV and drag it up a little more and retie the head. Then pick up rear of deer and put on the rack.

Using the side of the ATV to drag it is much easier than trying to dead lift one onto the rack.
Loaded many deer this way.

Back up the atv to a tree, tie off a rope as high as you can reach off the rack, tie the other end the rope to the deer, then drive the atv between the deer and tree to where it pulls it over the fender and on the rack.

You can also always field dress the deer and leave 40lb of guts out.

You get in the back of the truck (or back of side x side, or on the back rack of the 4-wheeler) and you pull the deer up there with you. Have yet to meet one too big to haul up in there.

Pawpaw rigged up one of the old style loaders you put on the back of a four wheeler and put it on the front. Used to have to put a stake in the ground and pull forward and it wold heave the deer onto the rack. Now he has pulleys and a winch on the front. Works like a charm. Looks like they actually make some that come set up similar to this.

Then just pull up to the tailgate, get in the bed and drag him in.

I purchased the HME hitch hoist it rotates 360 degrees. I added a 2” receiver hitch to my 4 wheeler. This will work great. Thanks for all the tips.

An older dude I know has a roll bar on his truck with a winch mounted to it.

ROLL BAR WINCH LINK

A few other older dudes I know have a hitch carrier on their buggy and either swap it to their trucks or have another hitch carrier (low slung) on their trucks.

lay the deer on its back with the back feet in the air. Its very easy to snatch it into the bed from that angle. once you get the hind quarters in you can easily drag in it the bed.

Keep a sheet of 1/2 inch plywood in the truck. Make a ramp onto the tailgate and use the tiedowns at the front of the bed to winch the deer up the ramp with the 4 wheeler. Did this with a nasty big hog last year.

I will tell you this, my old man shot one last yr at Thanksgiving, deer was still fat, 263 lbs on the hoof, I was pulling up him from a Mule into the old mans truck and the deer almost pulled me out of the truck, and I’m no small fry. FYI had to double clutch on that one baw.

I have had a few that I had to double clutch on but none I could not pull into the bed of a truck.

It is about how you do it and the key is to drag, dont try to pick it up, too damn awkward rather than heavy.
