Does anybody remember the old Shreveport Sports outdoor store?

Was recently reminiscing about the old glory days of going to Shreveport Sports, but I couldn't remember exactly where it was.
I was a kid when I used to go, but that place was like the Willy Wonka Factory for an outdoor lover. I just remember they had stuff that nobody else had, especially back then, like a huge section of Scuba gear and hunting rifles and Duck gear, etc.
I guess it was kind of a precruser to Academy Sports, but I think it wqw locally owned. I kind of miss those old big box stores that weren't big chains. They all seemed to have their own curated selection.

No I don’t. Where was it and when was it open?

I can't remember exactly where it was at (we used to drive they from our of town) but I know it was open probably all through the 90s and into the early 00s. I think it was also right near a Rally's drive thru.
It was a very large retail space. I think it may have been officially called Shreveport Sports and Outdoors.

Wasnt it on the west side of town? Maybe somewhere around the Jewella/Mansfield Rd area?
I remember going there with my dad as a kid. He would shop at Shreveport Sports and Lorants.
Lorants caught on fire about 2 years ago and they ended up shutting down.

United jewelers was a magical trip to the big city, had a Blackman driving the elevator. Closest I have ever been to having my own chauffeur
Always made it by southern maid for those hot donuts.

The Lorants Sporting Goods in Shreve City closed? It was open not long ago when I passed by I thought.

They had a fire at the store and then they didn’t reopen a couple years back.

Even had a fly fishing aisle, loved it

Thank you for the info. Learn something everyday. There were a few times that I was able to find what I was looking for there when no one else had it.

They were kind of the anti Bass Pro... And in a good way.
Shreveport Sports was geared much more toward water sports as well. They had the best knee boards, skis, sunglasses, etc.
For anyone who's ever been through Hot Springs alot, that store reminded of Gene Lockwoods, only with with much much more hunting and camping stuff. It was awesome.

Luckily here in NE Louisiana. We have a locally owned store Simmons Sporting Goods in Bastrop.

Yeah, it was in Shreve City right before you went over the bridge. Lorants was across the street.

Changes to Jumbo sports towards the end, then academy opened on Bert Kouns and it shut down not too long after

Yep, I remember buying my wisperlite stove there when I was in middle school. Still use that thing a dozen or so nights a year 20+ years later.
There was another smaller store I also remember vaguely before Shreveport sports. I bought my first backpacking backpack there. I want to say it was on line avenue. Anyone remember that place?

You may be thinking of Kamper's Korner. It was in the same shopping center as Brookshire's & King's Hardware and later moved over to Pierremont Mall.

LOL Wow.
Not only do I remember it. I was the assistant manager of it for awhile. It was in Shreve City. It wasn't local. They had a few dozen stores around the country. I think they eventually bankrupted and were bought by Sports Authority.
