The least you can spend to get a decent reel is $90
I dunno man. Maybe they just don’t make them like they used to, but I have some cheaper reels that have lasted me a long time. I have a couple of Abu Garcia Pro Max reels that are probably 7 or 8 years old still going strong. Think I spent about $60 ea on them. And I have a Silver Max that’s decades old that just won’t die.

I've since moved on, but there was a run of H2O Metals that I bought for cheap as disposable reels, and they refuse to give up. I never got a straight answer on the manufacturer.

I remember when those were really popular on the OB. My dad has a couple of them and still uses them. I admittedly haven’t purchased a new reel in a long time. I just haven’t needed to buy a new one. I service my own reels annually and they are all lasting (*knock on wood*). I went back through my order history on Amazon and Tacklewarehouse. Last reel I purchased was a Lews Tournament Pro in December of 2018. And one of those Pro Max reels I mentioned earlier I bought in 2017.
I even learned how to do my own rod repairs and that has saved me tons of money on rods. Haven’t bought a new rod in years, also.
So yeah, maybe they aren’t made worth a shite anymore and I’m just out of the loop?

I made the mistake of buying a Curado when one year model went on sale. Now, I cannot go back.

Thanks for the post. Love this reel and I just lost mine like this a couple weeks ago. I casted a small crab on the beach at night and put the rod in a bucket for 2 min while I turned my back to fiddle with something. When I looked back the bucket was tipped over and pole was gone! Spent and hour wading the surf with a flash light but never found it.
