If it really existed it would be mentioned in my grandma's cookbook.

Odds are on the side of lying, but in every case it turns out to be a bear. LDWF flat out said "there are no cougars/mountain lions in La." They knew there were some here, but they lied. It's not too far off base to think the govt could be lying again. They lie about anything now.

It's not off base that the government would lie, but in the case of mountain lions, at least they are proven to actually exist.

There are a few reasons I could see the government trying to cover it up.

1) protect the logging industry, bigfoot = no more logging = no more income from logging industry = loss of jobs

2) maybe real DNA tests would provide scientists with some sort of "missing link" between ape and human. In that case religion goes out the window. Mass hysteria.

3) if they were confirmed to be real then you would think people would either flock to the woods to try and kill/catch this thing (which is probably already on the brink of extinction) or people would stay out of the woods, decrease in hunting, etc.

I have been following the subject for awhile now too and I think it would be badass if there was an 8-10ft intelligent monkey out there but I'm not sure. I think there are too many reports of sightings for it not to be real but I just don't know.

There videos on youtube from Russia, Canada, multiple States that capture something that is not a skinny bear. If it is a hoax it is hard to believe that all hoaxes have the same dimensions and walking method. Forget staged cameras for wildlife, these guys watch humans and study us. If you set a camera they would avoid it. Theoretically they are able to exist without much detection because they are versed in avoid humans.

Are we having this conversation right now?

Yesterday my brother-in-law, with a straight face, told me about his neighbor who has been seeing one black panther, and one reddish one. My dad was also there, so I just let him field that one while I turned my head and pretended I didn't hear.

I've never seen any that either look credible, or are showing something that could be a bigfoot. How about linking the best three?

1) why would it kill the logging industry?

2) despite being a major stretch, if Bigfoot were actually a link between humans and apes, creationists would ask to see the link between Bigfoot and human, or ape and Bigfoot..or just flat out deny the ancestry. If religion is still alive now, finding Bigfoot certainly won't kill it.

3) I don't see how the possibility of people wanting to go to the woods either more or less would be reason to cover up something.

I think it would be awesome if Bigfoot were alive too, but I just think with all the cameras and methods of communication nowadays, and no 8-10 foot ape on video, we can chalk it up as a myth.

I can agree with the majority of your post. I was just putting the first three things that came to my mind out there. But alot of reports that I have read happen along current/old logging roads. Say if there were a couple thousand of these things left, you don't think PETA or some wild life organization would try to step in and put a stop to logging in certain areas of multiple sightings to protect their habitat?

The only way I guess I could really believe is if I saw one myself or if I had someone that I trusted tell me that they had seen one no BS.

After watching the 2 hours special last night on Natl Geographic.... all these bigfoot claims are getting harder and harder to believe. All the hair, tissue and blood samples collected over the years turned out to be bears, pigs, wolves, cats and Andre the Giant.

You need to talk to Matthew Moneymaker. He is the leader of the crew on finding bigfoot. He said they are are real and he knows that bigfoot love peanut butter

Given, but with the millions (estimate) of cameras deployed each fall/winter one would think that some sort of concrete photographic evidence would exist.

I wish it were true. But a giant apeman like creature living in the woodlands of the US undetected just isn't true. Especially some of the areas the BFRO says they live.

While we're talking about mythical creatures; saturday night while I was attending the fire in the back yard and teaching the kids proper fire lighting techniques my wife was in the house makeing some chili. I sent the boys after a beer and they raced to the house to see who would be the fastest to bring daddy a cold one. The back door was left open because Mrs Demon and I had been hollering back and forth about dinner and the guests that were yet to arrive etc. Not long after the boys had left me alone by the fire I heard my wife scream. Not the normal shriek she emits when she burns something or I track mud across the house, a real scream. It freaked me out so I headed back up toward the house. She came out the door before I made it up there and I asked her "WTH are you screaming for?". She replied that she didn't........

For all of ya'll's point of reference I live at the end of a dead end street next to a large tract of woods and swamp.
