Do y'all ever look on Google maps for ponds to fish and ask owners permission

I don't have a boat down here yet and have just been fishing around Lamar and that just gets boring. Started looking in Google maps and see some ponds either in neighborhoods or on someone's property. Have y'all ever just pulled up and knocked on someone's house to ask permission to either fish in their pond or to cut through their property to get to the pond?
I'm sure some subdivisions have policies or rules about people not from the neighborhood fishing in their ponds.

yes
I have also been known to ask for forgiveness first, if I believed the chance or arrest or getting shot was low enough.
FWIW when fishing these places I ALWAYS practice catch and release, always respect property owners assets, and always leave the place as good or better than when I arrived (no trash left behind not even piles of aquatic grasses I pulled up with my worm on the bank)

won't hurt to ask. It's also better to ask first than not asking only to get run off and being known as that a-hole.

This tactic could be summed up in one word for me: college.
Hell I even talked my way into permission on UC ponds. Those things were loaded.

Get a plat map and you can match up with the section, township and range, then go to the courthouse and find out who pays the taxes on it.
My FIL has leased, purchased and gotten free hunting rights to tons of land by doing this over the years

Most parishes have online assessor maps. Go to the assessors page and, if they have it, there is a link to digital maps. I know most parishes around EBR have them.

What happens if its owned by a corporation? I know there is another place you to look who owns that, but I cant remember. I used to do it for a real estate company but I can't remember what the sight was.

Do non stocked and non managed ponds usually have solid fish? I'm not a pond fisherman so I don't understand the want to fish a pond that isn't managed. Educate me

They can be if they have been there for a good amount of time and are in a favorable area.
There is a pond near a friends house that is very hidden from the public but is not managed at all. It was an old sand pit that was allowed to fill in and, to my knowledge, was never really stocked with fish. It is near other water sources though. Its actually a pretty nice little spot. about 300-400 yeards long and 100 yards wide. With it being a sandy bottom as a base, you can see 10-12 feet straight down very easily when the weather has been nice. We've pulled out some really nice bass and other fish from it.

Re: non-stocked and non-managed pond.
A friend of mine bought 60 acres to build an asphalt plant. While he and Imwere 4 wheeling around on the property we noticed a smal 3/4 acre pond where brush had grown over for years. Later, we chopped our way to the pond and tossed out a few bass lures. Damn fish would hit as the lure touched the water or maybe even before!!!!!! There was a handful of nice big fish in there and plenty of medium sized.

There's a pond here in Houma that holds quality bass. It's up by the icw. You gotta walk a mile to get to it.

this thread is about an 8 on the trashy scale.

I would have thought this was opposite of trashy..I mean trying to do something in a correct polite manner without just sneaking on someone's property then later getting caught and ran off. I don't have a boat and haven't really fished many ponds in my life so I was curious if you just bank fished on the side of bayous or public ponds like Lamar. If any of you guys want a fishing buddy, I'll be glad to offer my services..I've never been fishing for anything other that bass, bream, and white perch..

There is a honey hole off industriplex that I fished in highschool. sneak in there at night on a full moon and fish out of a kayak. not sure its still there though but it made for a hell of a lot of fun

What about Fleur De Lis ponds? Where's that rank on the scale?
I found these while messing around with Google Earth a few weeks ago.
