The visceral pro-gun/ant-gun movement aside, this is a smart business decision for Dick's.
The company is a sporting goods store much of which is aimed at youth sports. There's no way to quantify it, but I'd bet a relatively small amount of their revenue is generated by so-called assault weapons. They will still cater to outdoorsmen and provide traditional sporting guns. So it's not as if they have stopped selling firearms altogether.
As a symbolic gesture and one that makes minimal impact on their Financial Statement I'd say it's a pretty savvy business move in the current political climate. And of course they appear to have reserved the right to begin selling the AW type firearms if they so choose later. The gun lobby won't like it, but until the NRA, etc. starts paying Dick's shareholders I can see why they've made the move.

Dumb
How will removing guns from the store near where the shooting was do anything? Zombie Lanza gonna come back and do it again?

That's true. I don't think I know anyone who's bought a gun from Dick's

Wal-Mart not all that long ago really cut back on it's firearms sales except in certain markets. My local WM hasn't carried firearms in years.

Can't believe they haven't already. I did see 3 ARs at the Gonzales store Sunday. 2 were 22s though.

quote:Was in Walker Walmart last night and all they had was .22 tactical rifles. I was going to buy one but they wouldn't sell to me b/c it was after 7. Gonna stop back by this evening after work and pick up the M&P 15-22 for $420. I was going to wait until after Christmas, but it looks like I need to get it now

Never bought ANYTHING from Dick's. Been in their store one time. Way too expensive for my budget. But then again, I don't buy anything from Wally World, either, but for different reasons.

That's a great price. Better jump on it.

I wish Dicks would do us all a favor a shut down. Horrible place to buy anything.

I've never liked the stores either. Ducks was too high priced and I have to drive by academy to get there so what's the point?
