Delacroix Winter Fishing

I'll be there M-W next week and looks like it will be in the 60s/70s for the whole time. If it's not raining, plan to fish in the afternoons M & T.
While I would prefer GPS coordinates, I'll settle for your strategy for the following conditions in Delacroix area:
Fishing afternoons incoming tide
5-15mph SE wind
60/70 air temp
Mid 60's water temp
On/Off rain
Given the above conditions, outside of bait presence, what is going to make you fish a certain area?
For your troubles:

Just go with live bait and you're sure to catch some specks. They've been slamming them down there lately.

I just got back and we had 3 bass. The wind was horrible. We caught them on live shrimp. Not one speck.
By the way first time ever going and will go back. Talked to a bunch of boats out there today and no one was catching anything.

Oak River at the intersection with the Pencil Canal(North/South Pipeline) area is all you need to know!
Also, Skippy Lake and Point Fiennes Bay which are just north of Oak River, just off the Pipeline Canal... Those areas are on fire right now and with weather the way you're describing next week, that shouldn't change.
Skippy Lake, in particular right around the marker I placed has served me well on an incoming tide. There's a shell bottom on a drop off where oak river comes into the lake at that at the south opening. Point Fiennes Bay is a few minutes North and on the east side of the Pipeline. If you zoom out a little on the map I liked you'll see it marked.

We had some guys go there for our tournament this past weekend. Same results. Few bass here and there.
Oh, and to the OP - 1,2,3

Have you seen any of the reports on Facebook from Sweetwater from the last two weeks? It's been the most productive area in Delacroix because it has not gotten cold enough and specks are still being caught under a cork in the shallow bays (ie. Skippy and Point Fiennes)

We were in Oak River today and fished with live shrimp under a cork and we could barely get a bite.
This is what happens when I finally get a chance to go. They shut down!!!!

I was in that same area Saturday and ran all over to catch nothing. Prev Saturday we caught 144. Finally put 2 reds in the boat by my duck lease further East. Didn't bring live bait though.

Sounds like that was an awesome day.

Went today and a buddy and I caught 21 specks, 6 bass, and 1 red.
We used live shrimp, which probably was the only reason we caught as well as we did. We tried fishing current lines, but didn't do too well in them. We caught most of them in main canals close to the windward side or in the middle of canal where the calm water just started to ripple from the wind.
It was an odd bite today. You'd hit a consistent bite for a few minutes and then it would stop, then pick up again 15 minutes later.

"just follow the boats" as the guy at the launch says. It will be a boat parade. People gonna be running all over your spots. At least that was my experience last Wednesday and I didn't follow the boats.
Fishing was good. Soft plastic worked best.

I fished oak River at skippy all the way to long bayou Saturday and couldn't find em. Picked up a few and a few more throwbacks but it was ugly

quote:Sure have. My report came first hand from 2 very good fishermen who know the area. Oak river will produce only if the temps hit the 30's for 2-3 consecutive days in a row. Any warming trend(which we've been getting plenty of after these fronts) will push the fish back out into the bays.

I myself have came back to the sweetwater docks many times with more and bigger fish than some of the guides that run out of there. I'm not really sure who's typing up those reports on their facebook page but i take those reports with a grain of salt nowadays. Jack himself or his ex wife used to write them but someone else is doing it now.
