With tomorrow being opening day, is there a processor you'd recommend near Ruston, Calhoun, and West Monroe? I'll be hunting D'Arbonne NWR, and just looking for a reputable place nearby. Thanks!

I took my deer to Dowling’s meat processing back In the day when I lived around that area. Always did a good job for me. It’s located in Simmsboro.

I just looked them up. That sounds like a winner. I checked a few out online but didn't even come across that one. Thanks!

I use Rocky Branch. As far as I’m concerned if nothing has changed they are the best. I just get steaks and burger usually.

I saw them as well, and they are closer to me. It was a little more difficult to find their hours and what they charge. I can always stop by there or call and ask.

1st choice : Dean’s in Farmerville
2nd choice : Dugdale’s in Choudrant

Last choice that I will never use again: Rocky Branch

I used them for several years until last year. Started taking large deer and getting little to no meat. Would take a small deer and get a ton of meat.
The kicker: they have a “meat sell off” of meat that isn’t picked up at the end of the year. I’m 100% convinced they are keeping packs of my meat and then selling it at the end of the year.

I hunt 1 mile from Rocky Branch and happily drive either to Farmerville or Choudrant, if that tells you anything.

Literal 2/10, do not recommend at all.
Do yourself a favor and drive the 30 minutes to somewhere decent.

That's the feedback I'm looking for. Getting the deer back that I shoot is important to me. I'm quick about getting my animal gutted, cooled, and transported to processing.

I used Whitetail Headquarters last year for the first time. They are on Hwy 34, almost to Luna. They did a good job with lots of options. Before that I used a family member that had a small scale operations but they closed up.

I've known people that used Wilderness Acres before between West Monroe and Farmerville on hwy 15 and say good things about them. I know they changed owners 5-6 years ago so I'm not sure they are still processing. I would assume so.

Deans jalapeno cheese smoked sausage is a must have every year.
I usually take them a full deer for smoked sausage each year.

Y’all are making me worry with the bad reviews on Rocky Branch.

I’ve been using them for years just to get their pepperjack sausage and I’ve never once felt like they shorted me any meat.

I’m not saying it’s not possible though.

Well I’ll tell you this, your pepperjack smoked sausage is not your deer. They send a ton of meat to their main location and get back what you get back.

Dugdale’s in Choudrant

We use this one but we are family friends with the owners

They make a killing off of deer and hogs during season
