No scope? So you'd rather people risk a bad shot and badly wound the deer?

Plus I think lack of skill should not stop you from being able to enjoy hunting. Not everyone can shoot a compound bow even if you are physically able to I know guys that can shoot every day for a year and still not hit anywhere close to where they are aiming, just can't do it but that doesn't take away from their love of being in the woods and hunt

Where do you rank a kill with a Ruger .44 mag with a 10.5 inch barrel?

I had this dumbass friend in highschool that swore to me he could kill a deer with a slingshot, so i let him hunt with me one day. After he drew back on a doe at 100 yards with his craftsman slingshot, i shut that little game down.

I'm fairly certain a man went to jail around the Alexandria Pineville area less than 5 years ago for killing a deer with a sling shot. (illegal means to take qudraped)

They hate cause they secretly want one. Hate stems down from jealously. They know the crossbow hunter has a better chance at getting "their" deer.

I've always enjoyed bowhunting because it requires a different skillset as well as more practice to be proficient. The challenge of bowhunting used to keep certain types of hunters out of the woods. I have no issue with people who aren't able to physically bowhunt use a crossbow. By making crossbows legal for everyone, every tom, dick, and harry can call themselves a bowhunter. The same argument can be had for the single shot "primitive" rifles. May as well do away with the primitive season all together. Both weapons were a ploy by the state to increase gun and crossbow sales. Its a money grab plain and simple.

Buddy of mine killed a doe with his crossbow this morning.

His first hunt all year. He's never killed with his compound bow, even though he's shot a handful. Never recovered one. Dude said frick it, and got a crossbow. I was a little jealous this morning when he showed me the pic of his doe, but not because of how he killed her. More because of the fact that he didn't have to draw, make the shot, or hunt more than 30 minutes to get his first kill of the year this season.

To me, this falls under the same category of giving a shite what another man wears.

What difference does it make to the haters what legal means I use to kill a deer within season on my property?

That being said, I need to take out the 35 wheelen with the 3x9x50 Nikon and oil her up. "Primitive arms" will be here next weekend.

None, the hate centers around use on public land.

If that's the result of primitive hunting, so be it. Primitive does not mean 9x scopes on high powered rifles, and the justification is not so that animals won't be wounded. The pioneers or injuns didn't have scopes.

My argument for that is that there is plenty of season for people to shoot their 300 mags 400 yards if they'd like. The extra time for primitive hunting should be spent doing exactly that.

I have never heard anyone on the OB make the distinction.

Well, none of the arguments hold water on "one's own land". I can see them holding water in a private club though, so consider my last response amended accordingly.

Crossbow users are hated on but rifle users are ignored. I cannot understand that one.

It's not that complicated. Rifle hunters aren't hunting in bow season and claiming to be bowhunters.
