Crossbows...why so much hate?

I saw a video of a guy kill a deer with a crossbow on fb last night and 90% of all the comments were blasting this guy for using a crossbow.
Said it wasn't "real" hunting to kill a deer with one.
I've never used one but I guess I would given the chance.
Why all the hatred towards crossbow hunters?

I was messing with a friend on FB for his crossbow kill. He flipped out on me

As far as "real hunting" goes:
longbow > recurve bow > compound bow > crossbow > muzzle loader > shotgun > rifle > rifle with scope
longbow > recurve bow > compound bow > crossbow > muzzle loader > shotgun > rifle > rifle with scope

Should be completely legal for handicapped, youth, and old folks. I don't bow hunt though, so my input doesn't matter.
I also don't think scopes should be allowed on "primitive" weapons (don't do that either).
They may as well abandon all regulations on hunting and let people use whatever means they like from Oct. 1 to the end. JMO

IMO it stems from the original legislation for crossbows . Crossbows were allowed to be used for hunting if a person was handicap or elderly. They were defined as a crutch. And with that situation, no one had any issues.
Move up some years and now they're available for hunting for anyone. Personally, it's not so much of someone using a crossbow, it's having that crossbow defined the same as archery with a vertical bow. The stigma of the "handicap/elderly" has stuck.
Every bow hunter has gotten into a situation where they're in a stare down with a deer, or multiple deer (eyes) around and you can't draw. Sometimes this leads to you not being able to seize the opportunity. But that is bowhunting.
Enter the crossbow hunter. You have some guys sitting in a box stand, with a crossbow that was cocked hours ago and has a magnified scope on the top. There is no need to stealthily draw your bow, hold back on that draw until the animal presents a shot that you can take, etc. You raise the crossbow and shoot.
As a guy that both bow hunts and rifle hunts, I can't critique crossbows much more than the way I feel, that bow hunting and crossbow hunting should be classified differently. Yes both require you to get close to an animal which is a great accomplishment, but getting close is only a fraction of the challenge to a bow hunter. Executing the shot is a whole other ball game.

Crossbow users are hated on but rifle users are ignored. I cannot understand that one.

I thought about getting a crossbow last year and one of my buddies gave me some serious shite about it and said that it's pansy hunting and not for real men who have the ability to use a compound bow. Ultimately I didn't get one because I didn't need to spend $1000 at the time and bow season was almost over. This same buddy texts me a month ago with a pic of his new crossbow

Rifle season regulations are more stringent than archery season regulations (doe days, etc.). I think the majority of the hate stems from the facts that a.) crossbows were originally defined as a crutch, as an earlier poster said, and b.) crossbow hunters are allowed to hunt during archery season, where regulations are much more lenient.
Getting a deer in range of a crossbow is hard, but getting a deer in range to put a clean arrow through it is really difficult. As a bowhunter, I don't really care whether someone hunts with a crossbow. I just personally wish they weren't able to hunt throughout the entirety of archery season. Maybe lump them into primitive season, or give them a week before primitive opens or something.

This. The hatred is based on able-bodied individuals using the crossbow during archery season when the crossbow is a much more capable weapon.

Takes more of the challenge out of the hunt. Crossbows make you part of the "everyone should get a trophy" group.

Perfect solution. Go back to allowing only handicap hunters to use a crossbow, then anyone can use it during primitive season.

Really not hard to understand. Bow hunters usually take up the sport because they want the added challenge that comes with it. Many rifle hunters will start bow hunting for this reason. No bow hunter ever decided to pick up a rifle for the added challenge of it

I hardly have time to hunt, much less practice shooting a bow. Crossbow for me expands the possibilities of when I can hunt. I kill 2-3 deer a year, no trophies, and my family eats every single one. I've only killed 2 does with crossbow in the last 5 years. I couldn't give less of a fuk what someone else thinks about me hunting 2-3 times a year with a crossbow.

Id support that but add maybe youths can use crossbows as well during archery season

I have a crossbow, that I rarely use. My wife use it once or twice a year. I really like shooting my compound bow but as bad as my shoulders are jacked up I see crossbow use only in the near future I don't see using a crossbow as being lazy if that's the case hunting over corn or rice bran is lazy you should go out and find acorns. PS I hunt over corn
