Or for a little more punch go with the PM9. That is one that I carry sometimes. One of the best there is IMO.

Yes I want a pm9. I have a sig P250 in a 9 and it's a bit to big for CC.
I can drop the Kahr 380 in the pocket of my wool slack (in a pocket holster) and it feels like I have my Iphone in my pocket.

She shoots a Ruger SR9 currently
Then get her the SR9C. Should fit in her purse easily, and the mags from her SR9 will fit it for extras.

I love my SR9c. One of the easiest handguns to shoot. Period

Got one a few days ago. Put 100 rounds through it today.
I'm used to double action revolvers so getting accustomed to the trigger will take some practice. But shot nice for a smallish gun.

The trigger on it is amazingly crispy. Reset is super short and mine breaks around 4 pounds.
It's also super reliable. For a 4 hundy dollar gun it really can't be beat.

Got to get a holster now. Maybe a light on it down the road.
Ordered some extra 17 round mags for it.

KY,
Bapple's advice is solid.
More specifically, for purse carry, I'd suggest a lightweight, 38 Spec +P revolver w/ a concealed hammer, like the Ruger LCR. The suggested semi-autos are good ones, but w/ purse carry I worry about the slide catching/snagging on the purse, hindering follow up shots. If she handles the Ruger SR9 well, you might look at the compact version, although it may be too big for purse carry. I'd suggest a 9mm, which would (unfortunately) eliminate the XDs. Be sure she gets a nice purse that's designed for concealed carry of a gun. Also be sure and get a holster to carry the gun in the purse.
Lots of good woman specific info here.

I don't have one of these, but have always thought it looked very interesting for a purse holster.LINK

wants something that will fit in her purse.
I've been getting burnt out on these threads lately with the gun rush, but I'll give you my best advice:
Kahr CM9/CW9
S&W M&P Shield
Springfield XDs
S&W Airweight
Ruger LCR
