The governor also signed bills that allow people to carry concealed handguns without permits, eliminate parole for adults who commit crimes after Aug. 1, dramatically cut availability of good behavior credits in prison and limit how people can request plea deals after their convictions, among others.

Interesting

And for those who think this will overcrowd the prisons, a little over 1% of the current population gets parole each year.

quote:

Last year, 387 incarcerated people were granted parole, based on data in the Louisiana Board of Pardons and Committee on Parole’s annual report. Louisiana’s prison population last year was about 29,000, according to a report by the Louisiana Department of Corrections.

Prison construction is one of the best expenditures government can make.

No parole for all crimes? Damn. The violent crimes are one thing. But I think this takes it too far.

the rules/laws apply to carry, not the permit.

For example, while in an establishment serving alcohol, at a school or governmental building, etc.

There should be a primer as this date approaches, so that people understand the basic rules.

It appears that most if not all of the restrictions and rules on concealed carry permit holders will apply to anyone utilizing constitutional carry. Folks need to thoroughly learn the new law before they attempt to constitutional carry.

Yeah, when I said a primer was needed, I meant the local news (and newspapers, if they're still a thing) simply need to cover what's still off-limits. Where you can't carry.

Despite some of the fear mongers, I'm pretty sure nobody thinks Constitutional Carry means you can shoot at someone who passed you on the road, or who took the last box of donuts at the grocery store. Society isn't going to change.

No, but justifiable force is not as black and white as some people think it is. At the end of the day they may be found to be justified in a shooting, but in certain situations, it’s not going to save you from going through a rough, costly trial. If you kill someone under questionable circumstances, you can expect to end up more like Rodney Peairs or George Zimmerman, not Kyle Rittenhouse.

How will this work with states that we currently have reciprocity of our permit? I generally carry when traveling the South by myself. I wouldn't mind still having to get a permit for this reason but at the same time the class/shooting requirement every 5 years is dumb.

Depending on what states you travel to, you may not need a permit there either. Otherwise, it won’t change with states we have reciprocity with.

This is false. You can absolutely legally carry in a restaurant that serves alcohol.

What you cannot do is carry in a “bar” as defined by having a class A general retail permit to sell alcohol and you must be 18+ to enter.

You can’t carry in the “bar area” of a restaurant.

Funny how you can be sitting at a table just two feet outside the bar area and you are fine.

It’s funny bc the poster you were replying to is incorrect. The “bar area” of a restaurant would have to be licensed separately as a class A bar establishment and be 18+ only to enter for his statement to be true, which no restaurant bar I know of is.
