Looking for advice on fishing this area in the next few weeks. Family has a camp rented for a week near Coco marina. It’s been 25 years since we sold our camp and I’ve fished down there. Any pointers OB?

Probably do a mix of trout fishing, sight fishing reds and running traps for triple tail.

Used to have success in the marsh adjacent to Coco for reds and black drum. Didn’t have any specific spots, we’d just track and cast.

Fishing has been good when the winds are decent. You can catch trout inside under the birds pretty easily lately, there will likely be a lot of throwbacks but some of those schools have produced limits. Reds will be working the banks too when the tide starts falling good.

Crabs were running great two weeks ago.

The live bait is producing better than plastics. I use cocahoes and shrimp and always bring home dinner. The specs are still small in the marsh right now but there are some barely legal keepers around. The larger trout are still in the deeper water like around Leeville or Grand Isle. But it's picking up.

Smaller trout (specs and white) are everywhere inside. Bigger trout are closer to the islands. Can catch on both live shrimp and cocohoes. Mix in artificial here and there too. Good luck.

I hate to say it but live bait is almost necessary. I caught on top of reefs on top water last weekend but not until noon. I did catch some at the deeper rigs on artificial but shrimp or croackers would have made my day easier. The tides have been way off of the predictions. You may have to wait it out to get the bite going.

Did pretty good on artifical on the bottom a few weeks ago.

Coco marina is NICEEEEEEE now. No more slogging through saltwater at high tide. That place is set up right

OP hasn't been in a while. He'd best take some bait.

I’m an artificial guy, but I know better than to no bring live with a 6yr old and 4yr old on the boat.

I had quit fishing there all together just because the launch was so shitty.

With young ones, you can fish around sea breeze over to lake Barre and have plenty of action. Will catch a lot of throwbacks this time of year but good action.

My advice for someone who hasn’t fished Coco in 25 years would be to go with a charter

Big C does everything first class that’s for sure. 24 hour pay at the pump gas/diesel is a game changer imo.

$4 a champagne basket. As many as you need from a walk in freezer.

Leave out the marina head south down the ship channel, get some live bait at the Tracy Macy channel 69 right off the ship channel if he's there or call him 985-855-6122.

Head South to Wine/Whiskey Island or Timbalier Islands, or fish the structures in Calliou Bay, just be carful and watch for the underwater structures.
