Clark creek recreation area

Planning on bringing my kids(7&4) up there in the morning. Tips? Dos and donts?

Let them run around like crazy. don't go too far if the little one is prone to fatigue. pack water and snacks and take your time.

Bayou Creek RV park in St. Francisville or Tunica Hills. Tunica is primitive and I don't know if they allow campers.

We brought our 5 year old and walked the creek the entire time and I didn't have to hold her once. She loved it and the creek kept them cool the whole time. There are 3 small waterfalls in the creek alone. I'd do that for your little one. The main trail is pretty rough from what I've heard

Stop at the pond store if its open. Be prepared to carry the little one back up the hill if he/she gets tired. Pack drinks and a snack. Have fun.

I don't think I'd take young kids on the primitive trail, most Louisianians don't exactly deal with walking up hills on a regular basis so it can get a tad rough. Bring plenty of water and energy filled snacks.

I would stick to the main gravel trail and walk the creek beds. You can see most of the waterfalls just doing that. There are some pretty large holders down some of the creeks and they can get slippery so be careful.
I wouldn't try the primitive trail. It's not an easy hike and you will get covered in ticks.

I'll reiterate what others have said about sticking to the main trails and creek beds with kids that young. Primitive trails are just that-primitive. Last Fall I got stupid and took my nephews on one of the primitve loops. Didn't get on the trail till the afternoon and was without a flashlight. Ended up having to tote the youngest so he wouldn't slow us in our rush to make it back to the main trail before it got dark.
Oh, and feel free to just throw your water bottles down whichever ravine is most convenient. Every other cock-sucking piece of shite does it.

Bring a backpack with water and snacks. Me and my 9 year old got wore out on those trails. Just take plenty breaks. Walking with those kinds of elevation changes is tougher than you think if you hadn't done it before.

We had a great time. We stuck to the main trail and creek. We didn't do the whole trail though. Hardest part was walking in and out down and up that hill.
Brought plenty of water and some snacks (I needed it more than them).
They got a little whiny at the end on the hike up the hill, but they both made it through with just some hand holding, but no carrying. I was proud of them.

If you ever wanted to take the kids camping, there's a nice primitive campground on the Tunica Hills Wildlife Management Area a few miles from Clark Creek. Just gotta have a valid LA hunting or fishing license or wild LA stamp to go on the WMA. Outside of hunting season, there's a good chance you'll only have maybe 1 or 2 other tents out there. There's some trails that you can take from the campsite down into the ravine below, but not really scenic compared to Clark Creek.

I've been going out there for 10+ years. Love it, but the last time I went (1 month ago) it was the most people I have ever seen out there. I bet there were over 100 cars in the parking lot. I am thinking the rodeo was going on at the Farm.

You must get there early. Like daylight. If you do the primitive trail you'll be relatively alone but once you're back to the main falls/parking lot there will be tons of people.

I used to go a lot more when I was at LSU, and you are right, trails are empty at daybreak.

Bring cash to pay the parking fee, they check tags multiple times a day. If you dont pay and get caught and cant pay on the spot, the fine goes up.
Bring water shoes and hiking/tennis shoes. You will want to change in and out multiple times.

We have a group going tomorrow. At what point do you start following the creek bed? All I see looking at the maps is a north/northeast trail head and a loop.

After about 10 minutes going down the trail you hit the first little creek bed, which makes the kids feel good like they've "made it" but keep going, it gets better.
