Chicot State Park Fishing

Went last year. We didn't catch jack.

It seems like the fish are not afraid of the kayak or maybe I can just see them better.

Is chicot water levels back to normal?

Every fishing trip I’ve ever made to Chicot was different. Most of them were spent wondering if there were any fricking fish in the entire lake. Then I had one trip where I absolutely slaughtered them. That place is nuttier than a squirrels pantry.

There's no guarantee it'll work, but if I had to give any advice it would be this.

If you are fishing bass, if you are on the south end, there's a large cluster of trees just to the north of the south launch. This time of year they are probably gonna be hanging out deep with the colder water. But if the sun comes up and warms the water some, they may push up to feed. I'd fish close to the creek channel. The boat lane is clearly marked. So, I'd fish around the trees close to the creek channel. If you are fishing in the north end, there's a large pad field by the spillway. They're probably mostly dead, but the fish will still hang out by the stalks. Same thing there, it's right by the creek channel. I would think that would give you the best chance.

If you are white perch fishing, do like what was said earlier. Most of the people I've ever seen fishing them will poke holes in the big grass mats and drop hair jigs or shiners down.

One of my good fishing buddies lives 10 minutes from the lake and fishes it all the time. He knows that place like the back of his hand. He told me the last 3 times he went he couldn't find a single bite. So, best of luck to you.

Ain't that the truth. I've fished that placed a lot with a friend who lives right down the road from the park. He got me started bass fishing, and knows the lake very well.

Having said that, I too, have gone and zeroed a few times. Other times we've caught quite a few.

There's definitely quality fish in that lake, but there is typically a lot of pressure. If you can find a pattern, you should catch a few.

The only time I have ever caught anything was during the spawn and lucked out finding a backwater pocket.

If there aren’t a crap load of people in the park and on the water, it is a beautiful and serene setting to be in. It’s hard not to appreciate it, even if you aren’t catching anything. But the fishing can definitely be a pain in the arse most of the time.

I fished a tournament out there one time and had about a 13 lb. bag but couldn’t weigh anything because of the slot.

ETA: back in the day my buddy’s dad would catch hammers on live goldfish.

Around 99 or 2000 if I remember correctly, maybe a little later. I think it was 12-16 inches.

I think it was before I got married which was in 2004.

Actually, I think we were in my brother’s Skeeter which was a 2008 so it may have been around there.

frick, I don’t remember. I just remember catching some decent fish and having to let them go.
