So eventually the discussion came back around to metal vs. glass, then we started speculating on how much open water the OP would be running across to get to those specs (as we assume the reds are in the marsh, right?)

And the river/duck thing shouldn't really matter either way, probably huh? I dunno.

I'm sure the OP is still on metal, but humor me... where do you usually fish for specs/reds? or plan to? And is there a woman in your life that likes to fish?

(I'm still pulling for a nice used glass boat for the same or less $)

I'm in the same boat. Plenty of good deals out there for 22' glass boats with 150-200HP.

Duck hunting matters because I don't want to throw a pirogue and decoys in a glass boat.

Mainly, the Delacroix area.

Yes, there is a woman in my life that likes to fish. She's on board with an aluminum boat now and a larger bay boat at some time in the future.

Its 17.5'×50", I wanted to go wider but the money I saved by keeping it at 50 and that it would allow me to get in skinny water I decided against it.

I have a tan no colors cooler that fits in that gap in back and makes it like a bench.

that's a nice looking little sled you have there. I have a Blackjack 256 right now and LOVE it. However, I'm planning on getting a smaller boat before next winter for marsh fishing. I've been looking hard at the stuff Gator Trax is building. Im thinking something like an 18 x 60 or so with a tunnel.

Appreciate it, the next boat I get will be the exact blackjack you have.

Yea if I was only going marsh I would have gone wider with mine, I didnt think about a tunnel hull until after the fact.

Blackjack 256

2nd favorite hull behind the old kenner 23v. Shame the Blackjacks cost as much as a very nice used venture

I thought someone started producing the kenner hulls again under a different name?

Blazer Bay popped a hull, they call it the 2400 and BP still produce the mako 2400. Buddy sold his 23v in two days for what he paid last year. Some days I want to sell mine but wake up.

The Blackjack and the 26ft Triton are the two I like but they want and arm and a leg forem.

The deck on the Triton though is awesome.

Like Kemo said the 23v has been copied a few times but IMO never duplicated. The 23v is a heavy SOB built like a tank with a 96 gallon fuel tank. I dont think the construction quality is nearly the same with the others and they're overpriced just because they are big.

I shopped for one for a while but couldnt get one to fall into my budget, had to get a smaller one

Have never ridden in either the BB or BP 23v but have been told they don't ride like the original. The only thing different between them is wood in the original.

Shame you cant get a big affordable wood core rolled gunnel boat anymore. Not everyone needs a blackjack and OP might not be looking for a rough arse riding aluminum boat if a big heavy glass boat could be bought for less than $40k

Those were the two that I narrowed it down to as well. I almost went triton because I like Tim’s Marine and I keep my boat in Shell Beach. In the end, it’s hard to beat the ride of the Blackjack.
