There are some pigs that started coming out to my feeder during daylight. I want to take my son (he’s 8) to the camp to try and take one. I did a quick google search and couldn’t find a definitive answer.

Pretty sure it's 365 days per year.

Yes. You can also hunt them at night if you have permission. Just have to call local sheriff's office.

Get a bad arse air rifle. Like those 300 dollar .25 caliber ones and you can kill multiple at one trip.

Theyll bust a hog skull and you can lay them out without them knowing.

And its unregulated as it's a firearm.

Quiet and not tax stamp.

4 hogs in one minute

He is shooting little pigs at close range in the noggin, I would go for something bigger if you insist on an air rifle. .357/.358 should be fairly common.

Has anyone here actually called the sheriff’s office in that circumstance? If so, what kind of person did you talk to and what was their reaction? What did they say?

Does that conflict with the general legal advice to never talk to LEO and never volunteer any info?

You can either give 24hr notice or call after to kill the hog(s).

You’re just talking to the dispatcher so you’re CYA if GJ shows up.

Today I learned you can get air rifles bigger than .177

Our camp is outside city limits but we’ll within ear shot of town. We call before we start target practicing. We could have 3-5 guns being shot simultaneously. Don’t need swat rolling up on us.

Edit to add: we only started doing this bc a green jeans overheard us shooting one morning and came over to suggest the call to the sheriffs office.

Why only night hog hunting requires calling the Sheriff? Night coon hunting doesn’t require such a thing. What’s to stop someone from just telling greenjeans that they did call the Sheriff?

Louisiana has some ridiculous laws. RS 56:116.1(C) says you can’t hunt coons at night with artificial light, unless you have a dog. It doesn’t mention thermal scopes which aren’t actually light. I’d argue you could hunt a furbearing animal at night without a dog as long as it’s a thermal scope instead of a night vision scope. Why is there no requirement for notifying the sheriff? 22wmr can make more noise than a suppressed 300BLK shooting hogs.

It’s almost as if the politicians and LDWF are retarded.

I imagine just for safety and courtesy. Sheriff hears gunfire at night and likely assumes the worse. Don’t want you or your kid coming out of the darkness holding a firearm with a nervous cop.
