Gingerkittie, I don't believe everything I read. Some of those same articles are somehow paid for by BP.

I know in my case, I was in the wholesale and retail seafood business around the time of the spill and I still have not been compensated for my well documented (over 350+ pages) losses. They even put a private investigator on me at one point to investigate my claim. It all came back legitimate and still haven't been paid. And I know a lot of people in the industry that have similar stories to me. I haven't really heard of anyone getting paid in the last 2 years. BP has been dragging this thing out in the court system and trying to get it thrown out for every reason they can think of.

I'm making a claim. Filling out the form honestly. If they pay me, then frick em. I wasn't able to fish for several months. While fishing is not how I make a living, it's a way of life. It was disrupted.

The rest of you guys can get off your high horse. BP deserves everything they get and what they've agreed to.

I filled out the paperwork. We couldn't go to our camp that whole summer and fish. I had a 25' recreational trawl license I couldn't use.
I don't think you can file for it unless you live in a coastal parish.
Lawyer get 25% cut and they tax anything they give you over $2500.

exactly. i know there's a lot of gray area regarding this shite and who was affected, but there's a fair punishment somewhere in this.

Everyone has to judge for themselves if they were significantly affected. If you've got significant assets that were unusable for a long time because of the spill, you may deserve some compensation for the insurance and loss of usage. But if you are a dude who goes down to the coast a few times a year and you didn't bother to spend your time further west on the LA coast, you're a POS if you go after any money from BP. Same kind of person claims bullshite medical expenses after a fender bender.

BP is rightfully being taken to the bank for this, but it doesn't mean that you should be going after the money yourself if you're not affected. They deserve just like you and me to have to pay out fair amounts for what they've done, and no more.

You don't know me that well. I took up for BP for a very long time. I made some posts about it a month or so ago. I don't feel like re-hashing it.

Apples to oranges there. A TPOS, doesn't work, get's subsidized housing, free phone, free food, buys BS with La Purchase or whatever card vs. someone that works, recreational fishes, has to prove they had a fishing license, has to prove they live in a certain parish, who may or may not get a check from BP, and has to pay taxes on it if they do get it.

BP has money set aside for this. Hell, I know people that work for BP in Houma that are signing up for it.

I fish and hunt in coastal marshes and though it wasn't a huge deal, I was affected. I spend my money on conservation every year via CCA and DU while being on the committees, so frick it, sign me up. Maybe I'll spend a little more at the banquets this year. That, and I'll get hydraulic steering on the Xpress.

Not really. At the end of the day, it's still someone taking money they're not entitled to.

To say that I deserve $3000 because I couldn't fish for a little while is absolutely absurd. Take the money and put it into marsh creation instead.

No one is saying they are entitled to it. Hell, I'm not but if those dumbfricks that screwed up by killing the brother of my friend and fricking up the coast want to pay me, then I'll take it. The money I get will probably go back to CCA in one form or another as I already spend a good bit on this already.

Hey bluemoons: I have $100 for you if show me you have a beard. You're going to take this, no?

There's no guarantee it's 3gs. Shite, there's not even a guarantee of any money.

Like I said, I already spend in upwards of $1000 a year on conservation which is a lot for the chump change I make (no OT baller here). This is not including the hours I put in on the committees. I'm not buying drugs or 26" rims with the money. IF I get it, I will have to pay income tax on it, and when I spend it, sales tax.

It's true. I got 3k apiece for me and the old lady. They balked on the kid on account of he was only 7 months. But we ended up getting $750. We're in the process of legally changing our names to see if we can hit em up again.

I mean it's cool yall spend this and that on CCA (LUL) and whatever, but I'm pretty positive I spend both more money and hours on the water than most people here, and I think it's ridiculous. It's cool if you take it. If it's there, that's your prerogative. I'd just never do it myself because it's the same to me what I posted above, and I think the money should be put to other more productive recovery efforts.

I should really rephrase, too. Neither are instances of taking money one isn't entitled to so much as they are taking money under a completely misfounded sense of entitlement.

To each his own.
