What could be the cause for a delay?
That's the FBI's way of saying you shudda bought an M&P or a Glock.

Probably already mentioned, but a common name can do that.

Btw the Springfield XDS 9mm is what I carry. Love that gun.

I get delayed everytime I purchase a new gun. You would think after 3 NFA approvals, state police & FBI fingerprints for my job that I would get instant approval, nope not me. My FFL usually calls me on the 2nd day of delay to tell me I've been approved, not to bad of delay, just enough to piss you off. Especially now knowing the a-hole in Orlando could buy with ease.

I have been delayed for every single forearm purchase since 2005.

Most of the time, a few hours. A few times, two days.

No idea why.

My record doesn't exist.

WoW. A guy with tax stamps gets delayed. We are so screwed if they expand the no fly list.

I've got a TWIC and have bought 3 guns. Had a delay each time and had to go back to pick up.

By the way if you buy from Academy, They will not sell you the gun until they get approval from the NICS check. First gun I bought I went back several times and after a month they told me I had to start the process over again. One of the associates then told me to go to Cabelas, Jim's firearms etc who only wait the mandatory waiting period. Academy store policy is to not sell the gun until they actually get the go ahead. Evidently mine was an unusual case as they said it almost never takes more than a week or two. Efficiency of government bureaucracy I guess. I have since bought from Cabelas and Jims

Here in Texas they call it a license to carry (LTC) now. I will start that process sometime soon but would like to get a pistol with a smaller barrel for concealed carry. I also want to get some more range time in.

I bought it from Defender Outdoors in Fort Worth. They were real nice and helpful. Hopefully I can pick it up by Wednesday.

Good on you for getting your wife a full sized handgun for her first!

The biggest mistake most men make is getting their wives tiny guns that are absolutely awful on the hands. But starting her on something with a soft recoil impulse is a huge plus since she can hone in those fundamentals before stepping up to a smaller gun.

Just wanted to let you know you did it right!

They lied, once the 3 days is up the status changes from "DELAY" to "OPEN" I have never ever seen an "OPEN" ever become a proceed or deny. It usually just falls off after the 30 days is up never to be heard about again. So, if you don't get a PROCEED within the 3 day period, it ain't coming. If I got a PROCEED for someone two weeks later I would consider that case to be unusual.

As I understand it, the reason for this basically boils down to understaffing at local level agencies, courts, etc. where NICS sends request for additional information/clarification.

I guess yesterday would have been the 3rd day since I bought it Saturday. Hopefully they will call me to pick it up today.

I got delayed when I went to pick up a NFA approved suppressor. How that works is beyond me.
