Call me crazy, but this appears to be much more a private real estate issue than anything else. People lose leases all the time. A 30 year lease should have been renotiated a long time ago.

so lots of legal talk there...
does that mean that people can come up and mess up my duck hunting or duck hunt on any ponds anywhere?

this is why the bill, as it is written, will not pass IMO

I would think there's a way to gate off the very entrance to your ponds while leaving access to navigable waterways but I'd imagine it would have to be evaluated on a lease-by-lease basis.

For example, if your ponds are at the end of a canal you could leave access into that canal all the way up to the entrance to your ponds. It's definitely a tricky deal.

There has to be a way for everyone to coexist but both sides may have to concede a little for it to work. Idk man...

Our lease was set to expire this year on January 31st 2018. After several months of conversing with Williams Land Company and their VP Rudy Sparks, Williams has allowed us to have a year extension on the lease agreement until March 1st, 2019. At that time Williams plans to put a gate or floating structure to end all access out of Bob's into the Shell Barge Canal/Intracoastal waterway.

Can you discuss the reason why they don't want to renew?

There has been talk with Rep. Pearson about a few things in the bill, expect there to be amendments, most bills have them as they make their way through the system.
It's not perfect, and it never will be, but it's the best chance we have right now to address a number of issues. It needs to be supported.

right. as a landowner, I give 0 shits if people fish my property. just stay a few hundred yards away when im duck hunting... like 300.. that's how far blinds are spaced apart.

maybe something simple like minimum distance during certain times of the year or not being able to spud down because then technically you would be trespassing... so that would solve the people duck hunting on privately held water bottoms issue.

as a cheramie, im assuming you've navigated my ponds before and with a knife in your pocket.
if you didn't have a knife in your pocket, you need to change your last name

I definitely don't want someone trolling up to the entrance of my pond

I can tell you this is being discussed. There were duck hunters in the meeting with Rep. Pearson.

It would make no sense to go forward with the bill if you only allow fishing and not hunting. There should be no divide if I can sit in my boat and fish it, I should be able to sit in my boat and shoot dos Gris in it too

If you don't support this, you aren't very bright. I mean, it's the exercise of a valid property right.

You can't have your cake and eat it too. If you want to make it public water (not water bottoms) then you can fish it and hunt it. What sense would that make to let people fish but not hunt?

whens the last time you floated in a pond to hunt and didn't beach yourself in the march or a float-on or used a pop up with spud poles? if you spud down, you're trespassing.
