I'd bet that they find something else you needed, i.e. switch, fuse, etc., so they can charge you and still act like they were making the original work "good".
Sucks, but you gon' pay. Everyone who has ever owned a boat has been in your position. Bend over if you want to get back on the water.

This is when it's nice to be remotely mechanically inclined.

Bring your receipt when you go pick it up. Act like you don't owe anything. If they mention something, get a confused look and take out your receipt.

Why don't you cut out all the middle men and call the guy who gave you the business card?
If not, you're going to have to wait for your friend to contact him, and after that, you'll still be getting second, likely third hand information.. I would have asked for the guy when I went back in... and if you're worried about what they think about you for bringing it back, just remember, it's not what you say, it's how you say it.. treat them with respect and I'm sure they'll make it right

I find this post very entertaining since I think I know the parties involved.

This is what I'd do, if he doesn't call back after a few messages, then hit your buddy up. Have him call the guy and say you're having trouble getting a hold of him.

I don't want to be that guy that has to call a friend, to call this guy, to make sure he "takes care of me".
Wait, so is your friend of a friend still there, or not?
If he is still there, I'd call him and let him know point-blank, "look, you convinced me to give you guys a try. I brought my boat in and you charged me for service on everything I requested. But you didn't fix everything you charged me for. I'm giving you this opportunity to make it right."
There is nothing wrong for asking a business to make it right. But if you don't ask them, and they take the opportunity to bill you again, the mistake is on you. (I'm not advocating that they should bill you again, I'm just saying that until you put them on notice of their error, they're going to always grab for extra money.)

im interested to know the name of the shop, if you feel like sharing that info.

I don't want to blast their name, as I have confidence everything will work out.
The point of the thread was to gauge whether I was reading too much into the situation, was justified in my concerns, and ultimately relay the disposition to y'all once it's all said and done. It's like a live in game thread of boat maintenance.

If I ever hang it up at my day job Im very tempted to start a legitimate boat mechanic service shop with a West Marine style retail store. There is absolutely a market for it and it blows me away how many bad shops there are. I cant believe the lack of customer service, wait times, not standing behind work, etc.

Situations like this are why I fix my own shite. No one to yell at by myself.
