Looking to take my young family out tomorrow in my 22ft bay boat. I'm looking for somewhere within an hours drive from Baton Rouge. We're looking for a change from putting in at Fred's on the River. Looking for somewhere hopefully not too crowded where we can enjoy a leisure drive. Would love to let the kids target some blue gill or catfish if possible. Thanks for any recommendations.

this ^^^^^^^

you can boat, fish, swim, water ski, and do some crabbing, and then take the family to middendorfs for a good meal after all that and make it a great family day for all

Where can you go crabbing from this launch? I have a dozen drop nets set at 10-12 feet deep. Would these work there?

you can crab along the bank by the launch but we usually do it at the ends of the hwy 51 bridge (not the newer interstate bridge) on the opposite side bank from middendorfs or by the little rest park area next to it.

use this link and you can see the whole area LINK

OP said he wants his kids to catch fish.

All my experiences fishing from there have been mediocre or worse.

Just run 45 minutes down I-10 to Henderson and put in at the big launch under the interstate. You should easily catch bream, sacalait, and some bass.
