Looking to buy myself a 36" Blackstone.

Dicks Sporting Goods has the 36" Iron Forged for $450.

Most other places are charging the same for the standard model, if not more.

I am not sure what makes the Iron Forged better, but why not?

Finally, my question, What other brand should I be looking at?
When it came to pellet smokers, I bought a Z Grill and it ran circles around my fathers in laws Rectec and was half the price.

Cabellas has their 36” four burner on sale for $249 right now. Head upstairs, right in front of the escalators.

Anybody try the Weber griddle inserts for a gas grill instead of the separate Blackstone?

I’ve got a Lodge griddle that covers both eyes of my Coleman camp stove. No idea why people buy blackstones when you can put a griddle on top of a gas grill.

The loco digital ones look cool but I'm not sure it is worth the extra money. Didn't see them till I already bought a black stone during black Friday deals.

If you only want a Blackstone, then ignore this, but don’t sleep on the Member’s Mark griddles at Sam’s. I have 3 of them.

I have a 22” one that I use to cook just for me and my wife and a 36” that stays in the garage that I use when I need to cook for more people.

I also have a 36” one at my mom’s house. This is the only one that I have ever had a problem with. The gas tube/burner, or whatever you call it went out.

Sam’s has what they call a “Lifetime Satisfaction Guarantee” on their Member’s Mark products. When the burner went out, I inquired about getting a replacement. The customer service rep told me to just bring it back and they would replace the whole thing (after using it for 3 years). You can’t really beat that imo.

I’ve used griddle on top of the stove but it’s nowhere near the same as a 36” black stone. Having the opportunity for different heat zones is what makes it special.

I tried this method last year so I wouldn't have to pack my 18" Blackstone while camping. I'll be bringing the blackstone this year. It's much easier to keep your cooking area clean, especially if you're cooking really greasy stuff. It's also nice to be able to have something in a pot on the coleman stove while using the Blackstone.

I think that's the one with their upgraded griddle, which is thicker and supposed to have better heat distribution. It doesn't work that well according to reviews. Not that it's bad, but it's not much of an improvement over their regular one.

If having even heating is a priority, the Weber Slate or the Traeger. Weber is probably the better value, biggest negative is it suffers in the wind. The Traeger's biggest negative is the price.

Unless you are feeding 20 people at a time, you don't need a 36". I have a 24 for a family of four (plus my parents eat at my house basically every night) it is plenty big enough.

I hate mine. keeping it from not rusting it is the biggest pain in the arse. When it is replaced, I am going to find something stainless.

Because the lodge is a 1/4 the size of my blackstone.

Cook fried rice or philly cheesesteaks on the lodge and then on a blackstone and get back to me.

What are you doing or not doing after you use it?

I seasoned mine very, very well when I got it. Since then I've dealt with rust once after I didn't clean it well and left salt on the surface.
After that, I cleaned the rust off and reseasoned it and haven't had an issue. After I cook, I clean it with wet paper towels and then coat it with oil. I have a hard cover for it that goes on immediately after it's been oiled. It's sitting out in the elements and not under a cover.

Got my 36” BS at Tractor Supply on sale for $249. Couldn’t tell you specifics of the model, etc. It’s pretty basic. Came with a lid you hang off the back of the griddle when cooking. A buddy got one with a hinged lid he can close while cooking. Probably nice to have but not necessary. I’ve never needed to do that cooking anything.

I bought this one today. Seems like a decent deal for a decent unit.

Thanks for y’all’s help!
