Let me start by saying this is the oddest thing I have ever seen.

My office building is split level with my second floor balcony overlooking the roof of the adjacent first floor. Just outside my door/balcony, a flock of Black Vultures has begun to congregate daily. No big deal except they have decided to attack the flashing around the vent pipes in the roof. They work in groups of three and four and tear at them all day long. They tore away the old ones and we had them replaced with a new style that was supposed to be "critter proof." They have already torn a hole in one in the first three days after installation.

Has anyone ever dealt with these birds before? Any ideas, I know the OB will say "Choot Em Elizabeth" but we are in the city and I don't want to shoot holes in my roof either. How can we get rid of these birds? Are they a protected species (I know Turkey Buzzards are but these ain't them). Anyway, thanks in advance for advice.

Mexican black head buzzard. They are horrible animals. Had about 50 trying to get a new born calf last year and I got there just in time because momma cow was exhausted fighting them off

They also shredded my foam layered bow target next to my barn and 2 lifejackets I had on my boat. They are invasive and very aggressive.

May not help your situation but shoot, shovel, and shutup seems to be the best method ive found for dealing with them

They eat nasty shite and probably smell the shite from the vent. Get a stray cat and put it on the roof.

Black vultures have a very poor sense of smell. They will follow turkey vultures that do have a good sense of smell.

We had some that took up residence in a box stand. So much shite and puke in it that we had to burn it down

Buy a fake Owl or Hawk and set it up where you don't want them

You have a food source there which is why they are there. Termite? Insect? I know a section of roadway that every Feb there is a salamander migration from the uplands on one side to the wetlands on the other side of the roadway. They stay there for about a month feasting on the salamanders.

Try an eagle decoy, or a paint ball gun.

Interestingly, buzzards and vultures are the cleanest raptors when they aren’t eating.

Get a bang stick type device that shoots blanks. When I was a golf pro, we had a Canandian geese problem. The golf course superintendent got a couple of the devices & gave me one. It came with two different cartridges- a shotgun sound & a whizzing sound. We had 27 holes so all I did was chase them from one to nine to another- then have to answer 20 messages as to why I was shooting the geese.

I lost a couple calves from the cow stomping it trying to fight the buzzards. A 22-250 works wonders or so I'm told.

We recently dealt with this at my office. They are protected so you can't dispose of them as easy as you like. We put up fake owls and hawks, no help. Tenants shot fireworks at them, no help. The building owner wound up getting a permit to shoot them within city limits from the state as nuisance birds. They were causing a lot of vehicle damage in our parking lot by attacking reflections, pulling off trim, etc.

Protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

Any ideas

Noise making devices (e.g. propane cannon), if possible. Maybe those shiny streamers.
