I've never seen one of these out in "the wild" while fishing or hunting. But every neighborhood pond is covered in them come fall. I know there supposed to be dumb, but from my point of view, they're smart enough to know what ponds the won't get shot at . You can't see the water at my parent's house come october-november. Covered in these things.

Very tasty and dumb as a box of rocks. Will actually re-decoy even after ripping into a flock.

^^This. We have always called them mexican whistlers or tree ducks....have more of a chicken foot than a duck foot if I remember correctly

Got these at Lake DeFuniak in DeFuniak Springs, Fl. They were just passing through one fall day a couple of years ago. Good find but not rare.

Is that the same thing as Mexican whistlers? If so, they fly all over my house in Bayou Black in the spring time. They fly in the same direction every time I see them. Come from the bayou in my front yard, and head over the house to the back yard. I find that pretty cool.

Not rare at all any more though they used to be. Fifteen years ago I saw my first one out in Texas. Now they are routine all over south Louisiana. Texas and Florida have been their stronghold but they are expanding their range rapidly.

Those bastards have taken over all my wood duck houses. If I whistle they start walking toward me. Weird.

Those frickers are everywhere in Terrebonne Parish. My neighbor has 16-20 of them every evening at their bird feeder. They make a racket for sure.

The infamous "Mexican Squealer"

See them all the time in Avoyelles Parish. Smoked a few during dove season last year.

I've got about 60 of those annoying bastards out behind my house 6-8months out of the year... they chirp high pitch every morning as the rooster would crow... can't tell you how many times I've wanted to just go outside and blast them all as they try to land from over top of my house
