Last year or two one treed itself in the yard of Broadmoor United Methodist’s campus. Middle of Baton Rouge.

I saw one across Hwy 90 from the Patterson Truck Stop. He was right where the grass shoulder entered the tree line. Was about 50 or 60 feet from the roadway.

A guy I go to church with has a resident bear on his hunting club few miles south of Montgomery.He showed me cell phone photos.
Problem is they have hogs they’re trying to trap but the bear eats the bait.
I suggested SSS but he’s convinced all the bears have chips and he’ll get caught.
Probably the biggest problem is being in a club with other people,there’s always that person that can’t keep their mouth shut.

Yup
That was a very cool and unique job to have!
Bears are not new to that area, however. My grandfather used to work for Exxon and he took me riding around weeks island. We saw a bunch of bird life and also saw one or two bears. That was over 50 years ago!

I was working on some controls for them; I also did some controls work for Morton. Also did some controls for the Morton Thiokol plant (where they made nose cones for cruise missiles back then).

Yeah, it's a beautiful place. I remember a lot of the local guys out there talking about wildlife. The state had relocated bears and bobcats for a while, then they had an explosion of wild rabbits, then bobcats started showing up again.

They’re a nuisance right now. Basically an overgrown raccoon that will tear up and get into anything that’s had food of some sort in it.
If I’m going to have to put up with the headache of them I at least want to kill a couple for blankets/rugs.

bullshite ! The powers to be brought 165 from Minnesota and released them.
I can’t see where that had anything to do with the recovery of the Louisiana Black Bear but “they” decided we needed bears with no input from the citizens as to whether we wanted them or not.
I myself don’t want them.None have shown up on my property so I haven’t been impacted but I know people that have and they hate them.
We have more than enough problems with wild hogs,we don’t need another destructive creature.

In the early 1960s they brought in bears from Minnesota that were nuisance bears which were trapped around garbage dumps and houses. Rather than euthanize them, they brought them to Louisiana. Almost all of them died within the first year. There is no evidence that they successfully reproduced. And that was over 60 years ago. They were a different sub species than the Louisiana Black Bear. So they would leave a distinctive genetic marker if they had survived.
Black Bear populations in the LA Delta started increasing in the 1990s because of the vast amounts of WRP land that went into thickets and started providing proper habitat.
No Black bears have been introduced to Louisiana in 60 years.

I've had two corn feeders, destroyed by them in Jackson Louisiana. I have to use hanging feeders now. :(

What rock have you been under? We have had a bear season the last 2 years.
They are a nuisance in Madison parish. We saw 6 different bear Saturday when we were working at the camp. They really are becoming a big problem

All over in Union Parish, I deer hunt there and see them quite often, last year had a mother and 3 cubs at my stand, cubs were coming up the legs , I carry a whistle to scare them off
