The ole Vortex Diamondbacks have done me well last couple seasons, but ready to step up to something clearer/nicer. Budget is around $800 or so. Not in a rush, so can wait if anyone knows of a sale or something coming up.

I demoed a pair of Maven B1.2’s last year, and I’m convinced they’re the best you can get in that price range. I was blown away

I’ve heard the same. I’m wanting to get a pair as a back up to leave at the ranch for friends to use or if I forget my binos at home.

Spend the extra money and get Swarovski or Leica. Lifetime investment.

I ultimately got a pair of Swaro NL’s. Couldn’t agree more on the investment part

What magnification and objective size are you looking at? Or what are you planning to do with them?

I have the Leupold santiam bx5 10x50 and really like them. If I could do I over I’d get the 10x40 or 42 and spend more money on a bad arse spotting scope for hunting out west.

I bought a set of Steiner military marine 10x50, they are excellent. I also have a set of Zeiss Terra ED 10x42 I won in a raffle. The Zeiss is smaller and lighter, but just as nice.

I’ve got a pair of Swaro EL 10x42’s. Was talking about the Maven’s for a backup.

Probably 8x42, or very similar. Use them when hunting box stand on food plots in Woodville. Mainly to judge deer when they come out, and see them clearly those last low-light minutes.

My favorite 8s I’ve ever owned are maven b3 8x30s, for the money and size there isn’t much improvement to be found south of a grand. 10 percent off sales are pretty regular on mavens. Ive also had meostars and viper HDs in 8s.

To throw in a weird one to consider. If you are wanting more power, you should check out the zulu6 hdx, I’m a big fan of the stabilized image stuff. I have the 10s and 16s and I’ll be using those for box stand hunting. I have nicer higher power binos but getting them stabilized in a box stand is tough.

I spent last week using binoculars every day in Africa. (I was taking pics not hunting.) It was great. I carried a pair of Vipers with me and I noticed my guide had Diamondback. Both 10x42.

They were great. Anything stronger would have been hard to hold steady. I would not pay anymore than the price of Vipers for any brand of binoculars. (I know there are better but I also know I am rough on binoculars and it would not do for me to be lugging around $3000 worth of glass---and people will steal them. Mine stay under my seat in my truck and I have had them 5 or 10 years.)

I have a pair of Leupold 10x50. Lifetime warranty. I broke one of the extendable eyepieces ( my fault ) and they sent me the newest model as a replacement. That impressed me.

I think they were around a 1000.00 about 15 or 20 years ago.

EuroOptic usually has some killer deals as I've spent a lot of money with Jason over the years. I bought a pair of Leica Trinovid 8x50's for $599 marked down from $1299. Still my goto set of binos used today, amazingly clear and crisp. Hard to beat the German or Austrian glass. Current specials - click here:

Zeiss Terra ED 10x42 ... $599 on sale for $339
Meopta Optika HD 8x42 ... $450 on sale for $369
Leica Trinovid HD 10x42 ... $999 on sale for $869

don't overlook Kowa. Be patient as they should be having more closeouts and Christmas sales soon. Doug or Neal at CameraLand NY is another great source for high quality optics at great prices. No tax and NO shipping costs.

avoid Nikon since they are no longer in the optics business (binos and rifles scopes), you'll see great closeout prices but there is NO warranty. Sad b/c Nikon made some nice glass

Tons of great reviews on the birdwatching forums. Those people are hard core and demand premium glass for their hobby

Some good options mentioned from the Euro Optic specials. I was gifted a Meopta Optika HD in 10x42 four years ago and mine comes VERY close to the optical quality of my original Swarovski EL 8.5x42. I was very surprised on the quality of the Mepota and the Euro Optic price on the 8x42 is a true bargain.

I picked up a pair of 15x Cabelas Euros on sale for shooting house glasses.
I’ve had a pair of 8x Swaros for about twenty years. Excellent glass.
