Open ocean with those slick bay boats, and someone who has never owned a boat is insane.

I didn’t recommend he take those boats out offshore.

If he has no experience I don’t think he should go into the open ocean at all wether it be a 30 ft center console or a cabin cruiser. Which is why I recommend inshore style boats which is where he should stay - inshore. At least until he has some experience. Just my opinion.

Looking for something to get my feet wet in the ~15 to 30k range.

Carolina skiff or a used Boston whaler. In that price range you aren’t going to get a big center console that’s capable of doing much more saltwater fishing than going out to the oil rigs

No, BSL. I say for him...but him using it is why I want something simple...and something that could take seas if things get bad between here and the marsh. Something he can pull and launch, and if he fricks it up we’ll just repair it or deal with it. I doubt he’ll take it to college...so it’ll be mine again at some point. Who knows if I ever pull the trigger?

I have a 22ft CC for going out in the open saltwater venues and a 14ft aluminum skiff for shallow marsh & fresh water fishing. Tried to find the right boat that would do both but just one would not get me where I needed. Bought both used and have a little over 30k invested.

I think most of the boats would be center consoles.

How much is a solid used center console?

I have a 2008 Polar Center Console 19.5ft with a Yamaha 115 4 stroke.

I liked the Polar bc it has a wider beam than some of the others.

I paid 12k for this thing about 4 years ago and it runs like a top.

Not fancy, but exactly what I was looking for.

Its perfect size to fish barges in Fourchon, Timbalier, or Bayou Black or Lake Verret. Very versatile.

You can find something similar for 10 or 12k.

How’s the search going, my man?

I’m still over here on 5th Ave NE and Beach Drive. If you ever feel like scooping me in your boat, I’ll allow it
