You aren’t going to find much good public duck hunting that doesn’t require a lot of work.

If you want easy, all you are going to get is wood ducks. Just about any decent hole in the woods is going to have a wood duck or two.

But like Ron said, any good duck hunting on public land is going to require alot of work.

I going to try the 1100 acre tract of Maurepas swamp wma located in French Settlement. I went fly fishing this summer there and seen some wood ducks and Mexican squealers. Not a lot of work to get to with a kayak. I plan on setting up near shore and throw a few dekes out and see what happens.

Maybe not the "best" but on Richard Yancey WMA sunk lake and pig pen bayou swamp area has been productive for me in years past.

Gotta pack you a few cans vienna sausages and set up on you spot at 3:00 a.m. With massive hangover of course.

NELA probably has the best public land for duck hunting in Louisiana. It’s still not that great though, and a lot of times you’ll shoot nothing but some coots.

I've public land duck hunted several different states. I've never found good duck hunting that wasn't a lot of work in some way or another. Put in the time and work or just be satisfied with woodies. They're the best eating anyway.

The OB is a good place but ain’t no one gonna tell you where to kill ducks with little work for the internet to see.

Remember to BR bank fishing map fiasco? Lol. And that was for some pond fishing. Can't imagine the shite show if that was a duck map.

Since I don't have any skin in the public land game in NELA anymore, I will give the OP a few tips. If there is water in NE LA, you can probably out shoot any private place if and this is a big IF, you have the equipment and you put in the work.

The best place if there is water is Russell Sage on the Dump side. If it has water in January, you can kill ducks but you need a wheeler and be ready to wade a long way after you hop out of a canoe or small jon boat that obviously has to be pulled in by the wheeler. You can wade in off the main road and shoot a few Wood Ducks here and there, but if you want Mallards, you need to be ready to wade off the trails a long way. You also get the added bonus of a few thousand trees that are underwater from the hurricane that went through there last year. It's grind but it can be lights out.

Wham Brake (also part of Sage). Really need a boat with a MM or a Go-Devil but you put in the work, you can kill ducks. Really good around the openers but gets shot out quick. Also good on front days. Just need to outhustle the locals.

Ouachita (also part of Sage). All you need is a wheeler. I hunted the closest pit on 15 to Ouachita this past year and they shot a bunch. I mean a lot. May have been coots but it sounded like a war zone and the moist soil units over there looked good last year.

Further down toward Bosco but still Ouachita and still also part of Sage. Some fields off 165 that LDW&F picked up a few years back. It actually used to be a duck lease near Salt Lakes that has been in rice. They kill in there but it takes a lot of work to get to the good spots and prep thy anus for mud. A lot of it.

Upper Ouachita NWR. I was hesitant about even putting this on here since we do hunt it from time when I come home and when the water gets right so I am going to leave it at that. You pretty much need a boat with a good outboard or MM and a blind is helpful. It also helps to be unemployed or a fireman to hunt here because if you aren't scouting this place hard, you aren't gonna kill shite.

D'Arbonne NWR. Very hit or miss but can be on but you need to be hunting it every day to stay on the ducks. Worse than UO for needing to scout.

Delta national wildlife refuge south of Venice. Only open Tues, thiursday, Sat, and Sunday till I think noon.
Used to kill a lot of ducks there.
To much work danger at my age.
Need a boat that can run the river in the dark.
We had radar and nav/gps.
Scout day before

That's all you'll get there, if that. I hunted that for the first year or so that it was public because I lived 10 minutes away. Never saw anything but woodies and the occasional merganser.

Did see the biggest frickin rabbit ever know to man, though. I thought I was going to have to shoot it in self defense. Bastard was the size of a mid-size dog.

Amen to that, brother. I'll take a Magnalite/cast iron pot full of stuffed, pot roasted wood ducks over other birds any day!

Look into Felsenthal Federal Game Reserve near the border in south-central Arkansas. It's gigantic and you can slay them on a good day. Lots of other hunters are going to be on that refuge, though.

If I were you, I'd look at WMA's in east Arkansas. Look for anything near McGehee, Dumas, DeWitt, Stuttgart, etc. That's basically the best duck hunting stretch of land in North America.

Public land and easy don’t go together. There’s been a few places mentioned in this thread but I’ll add Beouf. It’s the same song, when the water is right it’s great but it’s still a lot of work.
