My dad is getting up in years and he has never harvested a deer. I know he wants to, it’s a bucket list thing for him. I don’t think he cares if it’s a trophy or not. I am thinking of buying him a hunt as a Christmas gift. But not wanting to drop 5K+ that a lot of the places here are asking. Is there anyplace in LA that you can do something like that or is it necessary to go to Texas? In Prairieville area so the closer to that the better but not opposed to driving up to say 4-5 hours or so. TIA

Make a burner email account and post it here. You'll get help that way.

I've been looking here in Texas, and the only one I've found with any availability is $2000 for a guided hunt. That is a doe, not a buck. It includes food and lodging, but not sure if I want to drop that kind of cash right now.

2k for a doe? That’s insane. If you’re near the Houston area I’ll let you kill one at my place for free

I haven't been hunting since I was a kid. I've got a rifle/scope, ammo, and a hunting license. I need some assistance since I don't really know anything about what to do after I shoot one (i.e. cleaning it). Once I do it once, I have confidence that I can handle it after that. I'm nervous about going on public lands as I don't want some idiot to shoot me. The plan is to buy some land of my own in a few years.

Check TexasHuntingForum.com and go to the Guides and Outfitters page.... you should be able to do meat hunts for a lot less than 2K.

If you are serious and have the time, I'll take you up on that offer. I live in Arlington, TX but can drive and stay somewhere close by you. If not, no problem.

I can be reached at my username at Gmail dot com.

I lived in Dallas for 28 years. Quit hunting after I moved there because it was about $1000 in the 80's. Friends I worked with go every year. I just couldn't do that after growing up in NELA, where I never paid a dime to hunt. My dad worked for IP. Back in the 60's and 70's, when I was a kid, you could get a free permit, and hunt on their land. People weren't sue happy the way they've been for the last 30 years.

You can pay a processor to clean it for you and cut the meat however you want it (burger, minute steaks, sausage, etc)
