got a great deal on a boat hull because of a crack in the transom, so i'm going to fix it myself. i've never worked with glass before, so if any of y'all have i'd be grateful for your insight.

thanks!

Start doing some serious researching now.

I think these days epoxy is the go-to for any structural fiberglass repairs.

Depends on application. Do some research. Fiberglass is easy to work with but it is AGGRAVATING....US Composites has good prices on resins, cloth and tapes. I don't think they sell the west system epoxy which is considered the best by many but it is VERY expensive. Proceed with caution....getting some fiberglass repair under your belt can lead to all manner of ill advised ideas like building a stitch and glue boat....great boats, LOTS of time...

That's why I havent messed with it. Taught myself to weld, now I have 150 halfway done aluminum projects laying around. I can just about imagine the dumb shite I would get into if I learned how to glass

What ever happened to that thread where the poster was doing a total refurb on a glass boat? Think it might have been a Ranger intercoastal. That was an incredible project and might be a good source of info.

my great uncle used to build boats by hand and make homemade bourbon after he retired from the army, but he had brain surgery a few years back and doesn't remember much of anything from before... his childhood, boat building, secret family whisky recipe, nothing. it's pretty sad

Have you drilled into transom to see if it's wet or done the mallet test? Looks like it's at the bottom of the transom? That al strip across the top has open wood underneath, grind back and top with glass while you're getting itchey.
You will be sorry for going to rhino lining for floor, hydro turf it.

That is sad. My wife laments the passing of my Grandmother in the same manner....woman could cook a fudge cake and biscuits like no body ever....and my wife tried to learn her secrets, at her side, from 22 until granny died...and while she can get close she has never been able to match that magic...
