I challenge you to come show me just how easy 300 yards is with my rifle

A sled wont let you get better with a rifle. What rifle do you shoot?

I shoot a 30-06 with 3x-9x-30mm scope

It is very accurate

But I have a hard time saying a 300 yard shot is easy with a standard rest(sandbags and table)

At 100yds I can put 2 bullets in the same hole with my 270wsm. I didnt try for 3 because I didnt want to run out of bullets since I only had a few rds left. The range I go to is 200yds max. With sand bags i would have to pull the rifle off the sand bags to miss at 300yds.

I dont have sand bags in the stand with me so a 300yd shot would be difficult to pull off during hunting. Im resting my rifle on a 1inch piece of angle iron. Its only as steady as I am which is not steady at all but 200yds is doable.

What distance is your rifle sighted in at now. How is your grouping at that distance?

If you can't group less than 2" at 100yds you don't need to be shooting any further.

Answer that question first. You're caliber is fine and your gun is likely fine.

^^^These are the type of questions you need to be answering, NOT "What kind of new gun do I need." As many have already said, the 270 Win is more than adequate for killing deer at 300 yards. The real question is, "Are YOU adequate for killing deer at 300 yards?" How does your gun shoot presently at 100 yards?

Go to your stand w/ you gun, ammo and scope. Using the same rest you use when hunting, shoot at targets at 100, 200 and 300 yards. Then tell us how big the groups are. I'll bet your missed shots were due to inaccuracy, improperly sighted in scope or missed range estimation.

For real. Your average joe hunting isn't going to hop up in the stand and smoke a deer at 300yds. Shooting at that distance not only takes the right set up, but also consistent practice. I use a .270 win with a 3x9 scope and am only willing to shoot out to 200yds, but that's partially due to the fact that I can't go out and practice more often.

2nd deer I shot I was 10 years old. .270wsm at 267 yards. Hit a doe a bit far back. The person who took me should not have let me take that shot because I just started getting into firearms and had barely shot at all. It's all about practice. 300 yards isn't far imo. Just have to practice.
Best thing is to do a 100 yard dead sprint and then set up to take the shot. See if you can control your breathing enough to do a 3-4 inch group at 300. If you can do that, you can mostly control your breath enough to shoot a deer that far. This exercise should simulate the shakes you get from seeing a deer.

Are you talking freehand? Like run 100yd sprint stop and pick up your rifle and shoot? Because 99% of people wont touch a 2ft square at 300yds after 100yd sprint.

Simulates shooting from a blind I suppose. I can get very stable in a box or treestand if it has a rest. My excercise suggestion is like worst case scenario in terms of breathing and instability.

I hunt lanes in CRP and field edges. Shots tend to be long. The previous three seasons, I’ve killed a buck at 300 plus. The longest kill was 476.
I mostly use a heavy 300 WBY. I practice from my stands in the off season. I mark distances at some stands. In houses, I use a sandbag. In tripods, I use a board going rail to rail. I put a sand bag on it.
The .270 the OP has is enough rifle. Buy ammo and practice. Make sure scope is correctly mounted like the Midway USA video.

Pretty much anyone shooting from a box stand or ladder stand with a rail. I'd probably think in Louisiana it's much more often than someone running 100 yards and shooting offhand at a moving deer.
