so the day you can't comfortably draw/hold your compound due to age or shoulder/neck/back issues, you will walk away instead of going to a xbow?
I haven't hit 30 yet so I can't answer that. However, I clearly mentioned in my original post on this thread about age and physical disability, I then mentioned able-bodied. I don't think a 20 year old that can bench press a Buick and run a marathon should legally be allowed to use a crossbow. If you currently fall into the group where you've had shoulder surgery or are drawing social security, (a criteria which was the original legal requirements for the use of crossbows during bow season) I don't have an issue with it and don't know why are you getting so offended?
quote:

after bowhunting for over 40 years and using a xbow for 1 year
Look despite that nonsense in the middle of your butt hurt rant, that's great that you still get something out of it. You bow hunting for 40 years and transitioning to a crossbow isn't the same as a 20 year old picking one up at a local sporting goods store sighting it in and then putting it up till it's time to hit the woods. Using a crossbow is much more similar to hunting with a rifle than hunting with a bow in that regard, much less room for human error.
quote:

that deer has still got to be within 30 yds for me and I've still got figure out wind direction, when to aim, and pick a spot. I still have to follow that blood trail.
With the exception of the yardage what you are describing sounds a lot like hunting with a rifle.
quote:

so why would you frown on someone for having that fun?
Where are you getting that from what I'm saying? If you can hunt with a bow hunt with a bow, if it's difficult for you because of age or injury use a crossbow.

To answer the OPs question. I got a Carbon Express Xbow last year and it is great. To the rest of you, yes , I have a steel plate in my neck that made my old compound too much to draw and hold.

me too, along with shoulder surgery. used to draw an old golden eagle at 74 lbs. with 50% let off. last year i'd gone down to 54 lbs. with bowtech admiral at 80% let off. then 3 discs replaced in my neck and my compund days were over. so i decided to get a xbow, sit in a box stand or blind on a food plot with a cocked weapon and a scope and cheat.

my cheat tactics know no bounds....i do, in fact, use face paint. i further cheat by using a thermacell and wearing camo clothing. most times i use a 4wheeler to journey out into the wild in pursuit of game. i also use a single tree and winch to hoist and clean deer with a knife! shame on me. then i use my z71 to carry the carcass to a meat processor.

Don't get the hate for xbows. It's like saying people should only use shotguns or blackpowder rifles.

I have a reconstructed shoulder joint complete with pins so I don't feel bad about it at all.

I do agree they are dangerous. Cocking a crossbow in a lock on stand is not on my list of fun things to do. A crossbow slipping off the end of your foot mid pull creates quite a dental bill.

Also are crossbows relatively safe? I have never laid hands on one

Watch your frickin' thumb on your off hand. Seriously, keep your thumb down so that you don't hit it with the string, you can damn near take it right off.

My future FIL did that a few years back with his, talk about a nasty looking injury.

Dress like Fred Bear and do it from horse back or don't do it.

You pay someone to process your meat from your fake kills.

I bought this for my 10 year old daughter. It's everything that you might need in a crossbow. She has a hard time actually cocking it with the rope device, so I bought the crank cocking device for it.

The thing is pretty damn accurate and over 300fps. It would be a great starter bow for anyone.

Only when role playing in the bedroom.

I'm done. Permission granted - I'll forward your application for a crossbow permit without judgement.

There are a few things that get me fired up.

Kids watching movies on an iPad in a restaurant.

LDWF allowing just anyone to use a crossbow.

Breach loaded single shots in place of muzzleloaders.

People who use par-boiled rice in a jambalaya.

Do I get a pass if I use mine all season, not just during primitive?
