What is the odds that by this time next week you'll have an alarm system installed, have purchased a large dog, flood lights will be on, doors locked, vehicles locked, and your wife will be a pistol owner looking to take some shooting classes.
Got 3 out of 6 today and some others. Working on 2 more and we'll see on the other.

I would guess it was some wannabe Mandeville hood rat trying to be bad. Despite the wealth, Mandeville is full of fricking retarded kids.

That is quite an eye opening event.

Thank god for you otherwise no one in movies would be able to make a getaway.

Next time have a 12 gauge within arms reach. If door opens again, ground check from couch. Go back to sleep.

Seriously, glad it turned out okay. Most home burglaries happen during the day when no one is home. This robber must have been desperate or high on something. We live in a very quiet neighborhood and our house is always locked up. I'm pretty anal about that.

Man glad you ok, but lets be clear, this was not an attempted break-in this was without a doubt an ACTUAL! break-in!!! Dude opened your door and you were soooooo!! lucky this was not a thug that had a gun he was ready to use or this would be a much different story today. Man please lock your doors, NO! hood is safe and the crooks know that folks in gated or so called ''safe'' hoods will leave their guard down and their stuff unlocked, so it's just a matter of time before they get in. I would also let all your neighbors in on what happened.

Agreed. Perimeter was compromised. The seal was broken. Thou shalt pay.

Did you call 911?

And I wouldn't go outside if all family members were safe inside. Unless you live out in the country and it will be awhile for the police to arrive.

I'm still amazed that people leave their homes and autos unlocked, much less with keys in them. You are a criminal's wet dream. Sorry to be harsh, but it's people like you who encourage and help perpetuate auto break-ins by leaving your cars unlocked. Crooks know there are dumbasses like yourself in nice neighborhoods who think they're safe from these crimes and become careless, just as you did.

I hope you learned a lesson from this, and others who read it.

I live in a nice neighborhood as well but I will never leave my doors unlocked, garage opened, or keys in ignition. Scum is everywhere and few can be trusted.

Eta: glad y'all were okay. Lock yo doors baw

Can I ask where in Mandeville you live?

I've heard of this stuff happening in neighborhoods by the perps have been high school kids stealing beer and stuff.

Where I've heard of that is more West on Hwy 22.

Excellent post.

I've read some judgements that while legally justified, were awarded a ridiculous civil judgement because it was someone's kid, or someone's baby daddy.

About six months after we bought our house the previous owners son came over high on drugs and wanted to come in because he though my wife was his mother. I wasn't home at the time but I got better prepared. Well one night we were asleep and I heard a crashing in the living room. I jumped up grabbed a gun and found nothing. Well a few months later one night I was watching TV and the damn cat that had been declawed fell from the upstairs walk way and landed on the TV. It was the crashing sound I heard that night. It happened a few more times after that because the cat would sleep on the rail.

Anyway we stay prepared because you never know with all the drug heads out there today.
