I'm not a trail nerd but my understanding is that stretch didn't have a lot of elevation in it.

Day 81, Capt Jack gets thrown out of a hostel.

The video opens with the old guy yelling “You’ve got two seconds! Two seconds!” while Capt Jack gets underway. Never seen that in a through hike video before. Apparently Bob is feeling really bad so I wouldn’t be shocked if he heads home. I hope he recovers and picks up with Jack up the trail though.

If you are a fan of the Heard Hiker, aka #2 Pencil, I was surprised to see him post 2 videos today. He’s hiking the PCT with the oldest daughter of the family he hiked the AT with. Just out of the blue he started posting videos.

They did skip the Smokys to avoid the bad weather. Bob posted a new video on YouTube. His channel is Bob Ross Hiking

Capt Jack has gone solo and changed the name of the YT channel. He’s focused on knocking out big miles and collecting donations. Bob wants to go at a more leisurely pace and cook 2 meals a day.

Another south Louisiana guy has started the AT - Get Out!doors. He’s a good watch.

My new favorite is Jimily Outdoors.. He’s a train wreck. He smokes while hiking and in his tent. He wears nail polish and possibly eye liner. He introduces his girlfriend in one of his first videos but I think the girlfriend was a trans. They broke up in episode 2 or 3 so Jimily’s looking for love! Did I mention Jimily’s an Eagle Scout who grew up in the outdoors?

You saved me the trouble of finding this thread for the update!

Capt Jack and Bob split up a good while back and Bob went back to BR. Jack wanted to crank out miles while Bob wanted to take his time, fix a hot lunch, etc. Capt Jack was a jerk to Bob, too.

Capt Jack has been doing crazy amounts of miles lately. One recent day he did 30 something miles and looked like he was sleepwalking at the end. I don’t know what his hurry is. He still has to go back and do the Smokey Mtns, which he and Bob skipped. But after that, who knows? Congrats to CJ!

so do we have any AT hikers from TD this year?

Did Captain Jack and Bob Ross make it last year?

So far, all I’ve seen are old guys going solo. None interested me enough to watch more than 2 episodes. But it’s still early!!!

Bob dropped out before the halfway point. Bob was more into the experience and wanted to stop and have a hot lunch and a hot dinner but Captain Jack wanted to make miles. And the Captain even admitted to treating Bob like a dick and I guess Bob had enough. Captain Jack reached the northern terminus, turned around, and has been heading south. He never stopped hiking. It’s like he’s trying to outrun his demons and knows his addictions will get the better of him if he stops walking.

Capt Jack just put up a short post-hike video on YouTube.

He talks about his biggest failures on his journey - not quitting THC and nicotine and the way he treated Bob. Not sure why he gets so focused on nicotine but I guess an addiction is an addiction in his mind. The Captain sounds pretty mellow in the video, by the way.

Related to Bob, Capt Jack says he put a lot of energy into keeping Bob motivated to hike. If I remember correctly, Jack’s feet or knees gave him problems early and Bob would wait for Bob to recover. Anyway, they must have worked things out because Bob’s in some still photos at the end of the video.

Sounds like Jack has some plans for later this year that he’ll share soon.

I am doing 2 nights 3 days this summer with my 8 year old starting at the falls approach trail. That is as brave as I am getting until he is a little older and can carry a little more weight. We will get picked up at Woody Gap.

If you’re looking for a shuttle, Ron’s Appalachian Trail service is who i always use. Man is a treasure of the trail.

I can also recommend The Further Shuttle in that area.
I plan on doing 2 weeks in September picking back up at Damascus. Finished the Georgia trail section of the Pinhoti last week, about 120 miles in 7 days.

Capt Jack posted a new video about his upcoming hike of the Bayou State Trail here in Louisiana. That's exciting, and cool that he's going to post videos and blog on some of our home state trails like the Wild Azalea Trail and the Backbone trail, etc. However, he's wanting to start his hike in the next few weeks. That's gonna be hot as hell and fighting snakes and mosquitos the whole way.

It looks like basically walking the Atchafalaya Basin levee and roads in between the woods sections.

I made this exact hike back in high school. Even as a healthy able-bodied teenager, it wore me out.
