Asking for an opinion on a truck

2022 Chevy Silverado 4x4 with 100k miles with a 3 liter diesel.
it's under 30k
Would you be leery of a diesel? It's about time to find my son a new vehicle.

That’s exactly what I drive and I’m responding from the service center in the dealership.
Mine has 180,000 miles and the shifter went out. It’s the best truck I have ever owned but I think it will be expensive when stuff starts to break.

My neighbor’s going through the same thing. Not sure if same year and engine but in newest gen. silverado.
He’s in a real shite spot and said they wont get the new part in any time soon

Do some research on the oil pump belt before pulling the trigger. Probably a reason it's on the sale lot with 100k miles

Good point about the pump belt. I have not replaced mine but will soon for $2700

Sounds like this one may not be the best.
I’ve found a f150 STX 4x4 with the 2.7.
Would prefer the 5.0L but those are hard to find.

Wouldn't touch a diesel these days, way too many emissions controls and the thermal management is abysmal.

I had a 2.7. If you aren't towing, it's a great engine in my experience. 180k miles with little to no real issues. I had an exhaust gas recirculation tube break and some issues with catalytic converter/o2 sensors at the end. But that really wasn't much of an issue with engine itself. Actually, learned the Cat/O2 issue was likely a faulty computer after it was sold.

These are getting a pretty good rep for reliability today as opposed to the early ones.
If you get one, get an oil catch can. The engine is DI and you'll be amazed at how much oil goes through the recirc system to get pushed through the injectors. I have the 3.0 and I initially thought they were a gimmick, but I probably get an ounce every 2k miles.

Neighbor has one and his only issue was transmission and it had to be replaced. He is now looking at a 23 or 24 with the 3L diesel since he likes the motor.

Saskwatch my buddy's shifter went out at 14k miles on his 5.3L gas. Was going to be at least a month. He traded it in for a gas 2500 Trail Boss.
