Riiiiiiiiight, and the guys in this thread vigorously supporting open carry are actually liberals in disguise. Damn libruhls, they are a crafty bunch.
I wasn't referring to people in this thread and I don't think the people showing up with AR's are either, just making a point that the ones supporting this are only helping the anti-gun cause.
And to those that don't know, Chili's did not ban CC, just asked that people don't open carry. Sonic on the other hand did not differentiate in their statement.

While I fully support their right they are doing more damage than good, like Roger said, in the PR war.
When I began reading this thread, I was torn. My first thoughts were, it's my Constitutional Right to carry, openly. The environment of todays world (if we have wisdom) prompts us to use discretion, less we, by unjust law, lose that right altogether.
The price of Liberty is blood, human blood. A little discretion here and there just might ward off the call to arms the Liberals think they want to force on all Liberty loving Patriots.

The way I see it is that the issue is on the back burner with liberals right now, but it is all the extremist gun guys think about every day. You've probably met some of them, and those guys are weird as frick, ALWAYS talking about guns, and are ready to stir shite up at a moment's notice
If they weren't constantly pushing the issue and pissing people off, it wouldn't be such a big deal. Yeah protest something when it becomes a big issue, but until then, don't push the envelope and make people angry by doing this shite.
The best that can come out of it for these retards is that only a few gun advocates start hating what the guys are doing. Worst situation is that they force the representatives to do something to prohibit them from doing any of that by outlawing long guns in public
I mean frick....just leave the shite alone. There is no reason in the world that I can think of where 20 doofuses need to show up to a restaurant wearing long guns to protest something. It would be much, much, much, much, much better done without them walking around everywhere with their guns. What they do is a huge negative for the gun rights community

Just how liberal politicians operate. Make you look the other way while you're not paying attention, that's when they add an ear mark that takes a little of your rights away.
Remember, Hitler didnt become the worlds worst dictator over night, it happen gradually and he was voted in by the people

It falls under the category of "choose your battles wisely". Heck, even the NRA called the practice "weird."
It's only a matter of time that many people will become a victim of a violent crime that will change their mind. I had never been an NRA member throughout my life because I didn't quite agree with everything they did or pushed.
However, when the boogie man came a-knockin' one day and nearly took the life of a loved one, I changed my tune real quick. Now I'm a NRA Endowment member and have Life Memberships for my wife all 5 of my kids.
Point is that there is an element of winning hearts and minds. We're winning among the general population, especially with women like we never have before. It would be nice to keep it going that direction.

If I was on the fence about it, what would I think? It would probably be that I didn't want 20 asshats walking into fricking Chili's while I'm having a bday dinner with my family just to piss people off, so I side with the anti-long gun in Chili's crowd.
You're not using your entire brain man. Being smarter than other people is what gets you ahead. Knee-jerk reactions rarely ever are right or work. Don't just say "rable rable rable Obama nazis Murica". Think before you act, and think about how each side would react to your actions.

Food for thought......What did you think of the tactics of the Occupy Wall St movement? I know that you are gonna immediately think about the messages they were trying to convey and automatically disagree with it, but think about their tactics and the similarities to this situation. I'm not gonna lead you in the direction, you just need to think about it yourself
Think
Think
Think
and do some more thinking

"Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty" & "Guard with jealous attention the public liberty" doesn't mean in your face flaunting it.
Discretion IS the better part of valour.

Yep, bunch of mall ninja asshats are going to end up ruining the 2A for the rest of us.

I am not disturbed seeing someone walking in the woods openly carrying a firearm.
I am not disturbed seeing someone walking into a sporting good store or pawn shop openly carrying h a firearm.
I am very disturbed seeing someone walking into a restaurant with a firearm. Mainly because I question their thought process, social skills and basic intelligence.
I am not talking about concealed carry, completely different situation.
Guys walking into restaurants and stores holding rifles just seems to be the same guys with the jacked up, loud trucks that never see even a gravel road.

It screams insecurity of the highest order.
If you conceal carry, I don't care what you carry (as long as it is a legal firearm). If you open carry a sidearm, ehhhhhh.... okay. Whatever. I get that's a touchy subject these days. Open carrying a semiautomatic rifle? Get over yourself.

of course there is always the argument that " if people get used to the idea and see it with more regularity, they will accept it...
"Oh it's just those open carry guys again"
not saying this is the case, but if you get people used to seeing it, it will be more commonly accepted...especially when they see no one is being harmed by the guys with those nasty black rifles...
I'd be willing to say that most people where these guys practice it regularly just ignore it and do not pay them any mind...just like you guys would just shake your head thinking "attention whore"

I'm sure about half the guys that pull these kinds of stunts forget to put the safety on.

Walking around a department store with a rifle is being a jackass. I don't care how legal it is. It freaks people out and makes people who normally wouldn't care become vocal against guns. It's stupid any way you slice it.
amen and amen.

Will never get far. You keep having people showing up in public places with rifles, laws will be passed. Public relations isn't accomplished by shoving something like this down people's throat when the media isn't on your side to begin with. These people are working against the cause.

Women are a large voting contingent that politicians want. Women don't feel safe with their children in Target if some toolbag is carrying a loaded rifle.

Working against the cause and just being disrespectful in general. It's not a place people are comfortable seeing guns.

Correct. And I've heard the argument that "people have to become more accustomed to being around guns" which is a failed argument in dealing with much of the population. Even people who are accustomed to being around guns don't want people openly toting firearms around the shopping mall. Strangers don't know the difference between you and someone coming in to take out part of the population.
If you don't want restrictions on your "rights" either by government or private business, you don't do stupid stuff like show up in a restaurant with an Ak47 slung across your shoulder. It's just common sense.

I own several "scary" weapons. I hate liberalism.
But...Those guys are fricking idiots and are not helping advance 2nd amendment rights in any way.

I conceal carry, and I don't even like open carry (as a policy for firearms).
ETA: meaning I agree with everything you just said.
