Are geese snipers a problem in your area?

In the last 5 years it seems the people scoping geese have gotten out of hand from SE AR up to NE AR. I hate to rat on people but I'm getting worried about a .22-250 round zipping through the blind from out of nowhere. Are band hunters bad in La?

I've never heard of anyone doing that. Pretty pathetic though

Thats too much gun. A 17 hmr is plenty enough for a speck.

Seriously? Man it's big time up here. They hang those big colorful neckbands on a white snow goose. It's like painting a bullseye on them.

Not a problem here, but I've heard about it. Some biologist have suggested scrapping neck bands for this very reason.

ETA: Cool story, when I was 15 I had just gotten my driver's license. I went down to our lease by myself to meet another member for a hunt. After we were done I took the long way through some rice fields just to kill time and see birds. No bull shite I came upon about 15 specks sitting 30 yards off the road. 2 of them had matching pink neck collars. I was in the middle of no where. It took a lot of self control not to ease up the road, load up and come sneeking back down.

Looking back, I probably should have done it.

I'd imagine the fine and jail time is pretty hefty for this right?

I thought that went out of style 15 years ago. Or maybe we just got older. Either way, no comment.

Had some out of state hands pull on the shoulder and try to snipe a few off my farm in monroe county a few years ago.

My cousin saw them and had greenjeans out there in a split second.

Never heard of that.

But yea I agree with redfish. A 17 hmr would be plenty

The guys I've seen parked on a flock are scoping them from 300yds away sometimes. I figure a 17 is useless at that distance and in the delta wind. I wouldn't be near as worried if they were using 17's but when you hear a high powered rifle going off its different.

My pow pow said something about lining up on 7 or 8 snows single file and a neck shot from .17hmr will take out all of them at once

No. Therein lies the problem. I'd have crept them on our lease.

that 4 year ban on goose creeping coupled with the mandate of steel and 30 and 3.. is without a doubt why we have a goose overpopulation problem.

5-10 years ago there was some guys shot and I believe killed in Illinois by some rifle guys shooting at their decoys. I'll try and find an article. The guys were in layout blinds I believe and were shot from the road 200-300 yards away. Pretty jacked up way to poach.

It'd be one thing to do it from like 50 yards away on half way domesticated birds, but from long distance is absurd.

When I was a young lad, I may or may not have duck hunt with my .22

Woods, small clearing, as they go for water it was fairly easy.
