I got one at this boards suggestion. On Amazon. Works amazing, has started my Ram 1500 on multiple occasions. Don’t need to recharge it until you use it.

Unfortunately few modern cars will run with a dead battery meaning
i have never seen a car that woudlnt. i have seen cars that will shut off if you remove the battery as it needs that current or it will shut off the car.

I put this one in my wife's car. She's used it a few times both to jump her car and air up her tire. I've used it to jump off a couple of stranded motorists. No complaints.

The fact that these don’t come standard in cars (built in to a charging port in the car) is a disgrace by car companies.
hell the alternator could keep it charged until it is needed.

I have one and use it at the camp for when the diesel generator battery is dead. Beats the hell out of grabbing a battery from the boat. Also give you peace of mind while fishing or in the outdoors.

They are the bees knees. Keep one in my Tundra and one in the Suburban.

Still have my cables in the tool box.

That's because they aren't built for the limp-wristed. I have a JNC660 because I wanted something that will absolutely work on a V8 engine in sub-zero temps even if the vehicle's battery is completely dead. They are heavy because they have a 200,000 mAh battery vs. 18,000 mAh in the XP-10.

I understand. We have one that has 2 lead acid batteries in the shop as well for completely dead batteries. This thread is about the small lithium battery powered devices.

For the years I was in Pennsylvania and you could forget about trying to use jumper cables with a couple of feet of snow piled around vehicles when they plowed the roads. I had coworkers with those small jumper packs and they'd be useless if they'd been left in the car and cold, mine would still work though. Lithium battery packs require current protection, they have a hard limit and will shut themselves off to protect the battery and small cables from burning out. The big ones with VRSLA batteries might have a fusible link but they'll put up with a lot more current before they pop. Plus I can run a 400W inverter off the 12V outlet socket, which was my only source of power when a bad snow storm knocked out power all over the area for three days. Charged my cell phone and ran my floor lamp so I could see to shave with water I heated with a camp stove while my apartment's thermostat read 42F...

I have two for each of my hardware stores and 2 for each outdoor equipment repair shop.

They come in handy when the guys need to get a unit with a dead battery on a trailer to ship back to shop.

...and no air compressor either which has been used way more often than the jump starting capability.

I've carried a combination jump box/air compressor of one kind or another for over 10 years now. They have much smaller, compact versions for just jumping a battery. What I have has saved me and others many, many times, has saved countless time and money and has paid for itself many times over.

The real question is: Why would you not want to have one?

Can anybody comment on if there is any problem with sitting in a car in Louisiana heat?

I can only speak to the units that I've had which is this (and the older version of it):

It's lived under the back seat in the truck for years now with no issues... And I live in South Louisiana.

I have one for the Tundra but fortunately haven’t haven’t had to use it for a jump off yet, but I’ll use it to keep iPhones and iPads charged inside the hunting camp where we don’t have electricity but run off a generator. So they have use besides just jumping a vehicle. Plan to order another for the other passenger vehicle b/c I can never remember to transfer the one unit between vehicles.
